Two Hendrick Hudson track and field athletes capped off the 2026 spring season with appearances at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals on Sunday, June 21, at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Sophomore Sophia Savatgy competed in the championship girls 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 57.49 seconds to place 69th out of 103 athletes. Her national meet appearance came just one week after capturing two state titles at the NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Despite only being a sophomore, Savatgy already holds every Hen Hud sprint record from the 55 meters through the 400 meters across both indoor and outdoor track. She is a six-time sectional champion, three-time county champion, and has earned All-League, All-County, and All-Section honors in each of the past three years.

Junior Oona McManus placed 83rd in the championship girls 800-meter run, finishing in 2:14.07 against a field of 160 athletes. A former lacrosse player who has emerged as one of the program’s top distance runners, McManus has been a steady contributor across cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track this year.

Both athletes enjoyed standout seasons marked by victories, personal bests, and school-record performances.

“No records, but after states, prom, and final exams this past week, I couldn’t have expected anything more,” head coach Marcia Bailey wrote to the Peekskill Herald.

While Hen Hud will graduate several key contributors this year, Savatgy and McManus will enter the 2026-27 season with momentum on their side and the potential to reach even greater heights.
