David William Bender
David W. Bender, 75, died on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home in Conway, South Carolina.
Born on August 11, 1950, in Peekskill, New York, he resided for the majority of his life in Verplanck. David was a man of many talents and passions. His love for music brought joy to many around him.
He played the fife for over 60 years, marched in many parades with several Fife & Drum corps for fire departments all over New York and Connecticut. He started playing fife in 1962 for the Verplanck Fife and Drum Corps with his father, William (Bill) Bender. From there, his love for music grew, and he joined many drum corps throughout the years: the New York Regimentals Fife and Drum Corps, Connecticut Rebels Fife and Drum Corps, Newburgh Continentals, and Charles W. Dickerson Fife, Drum & Bugle Corps. In 1974, David and his late wife Linda started their own Fife and Drum Corps in the memory of his father, the “William Bender Memorial Fife and Drum Corps,” which lasted until 1983. David is most known for marching as the “Spirit of 76,” which consisted of two snare drummers and a fifer as they led the Peekskill Fourth of July parade for just shy of 50 years. David also loved attending jam sessions, musters, and playing fife with his sister Susan.
David was also a firefighter and EMT for over 47 years. He joined the Verplanck Fire Protective Association on August 9, 1979, where he was treasurer for many years. He was also an associate member for the Buchanan Engine Co No.1 Inc. which he joined on July 10, 1981. David also belonged to several other fire organizations such as the Westchester County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Hudson Valley Fireman’s Association, FASNY, and the Royal Order of the “Blue Vest/Nut Busters.”
David worked as a lithographer for Stauffer Chemical Company in Dobbs Ferry starting in the early 1970s. He continued working until the early 2000s, when he retired from AkzoNobel, where he was a clean waste manager.
On February 26, 1969, he married Linda G. Bender (predeceased).
David was also predeceased by his mother Marie McKeon (Bender), his father William Bender, and his brother Robert A. Bender.
David is survived by his daughter Victoria Verra (Joe), his sister Susan Piscitello, his grandchildren Brianna Warn (Brent) and Lindsey Keesler, his great-grandchildren Reagan Patnode and Mckenna Warn, his nieces Lisa Ambrose (Robert), Tracy Mueller (Larry), and Kimberly Bender, his nephew Anthony Piscitello (Melissa), and several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington St. in Peekskill, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm.
A graveside ceremony will be held at the Shrub Oak Methodist Church Cemetery, 1176 E Main St. in Shrub Oak, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 am.

Michael Christopher Doyle
Michael Christopher Doyle, 61, of Buchanan, New York, died peacefully on July 1, 2026.
Mike was born on February 5, 1965, in Troy, New York, to John K. Doyle and Mary Q. Doyle. He is survived by the mother of his children, Elizabeth Doyle, and their two beloved daughters, Tarah Doyle and Fiona Doyle. He is also survived by his brothers: John and his wife, Katherine, and their children, Megan, Jack, and Claire; Mark and his wife, Laura, and their children, Connor, Mikayla, and Kevin; David and his wife, Stacy, and their son, James; and Matthew and his wife, Jessica, and their children, Colin and Chloe.
Mike dedicated over 40 years to his career as a sheet metal worker with Local 38, where he took great pride in his craft and the friendships he made along the way.
He had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and motocross, and he was an avid sports fan. Growing up he played in many local youth sports groups and loved spending time with his four brothers playing and competing in any sport or hitting the slopes for a day of skiing. He also enjoyed boating and spending his days out on the Hudson River with his family and friends.
Mike had a remarkable ability to build and fix just about anything, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. He had a special talent for fixing cars and enjoyed restoring older vehicles as a hobby. Mike also loved animals, especially the dogs he had in his life. Augie, Ella, and Chester are happy to now have him home with them.
Mike will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and the many ways he shared his talents with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption, 920 1st St. in Peekskill. Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery, 1055 Oregon Rd in Cortlandt Manor.

Guadalupe D. Ortiz
Guadalupe “Lupe” Ortiz, 74, of Peekskill, New York, died on July 19, 2026.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and woman of unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Above all, Lupe loved her family. They were the center of her life and her greatest joy. A true “guerrera” — a warrior — she faced life with remarkable strength, courage, and determination, always guided by her deep faith.
Lupe found great joy in her work as an educator, where her loving and nurturing spirit touched the lives of many children.
But her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Stella, Sawyer, Ruby, and Noah, whom she loved beyond measure.
Lupe is lovingly survived by her daughter, Lissette G. Fernández (Eric); her son, Nelson R. Fernández (Erin); her beloved grandchildren, Stella, Sawyer, Ruby, and Noah; her mother, Cornelia Alicia Gómez Ortiz; and her former spouse, Nelson L. Fernández Lovato, with whom she remained close and shared a lasting bond.
She was predeceased by her father, Juan Bautista Ortiz Navarrete.
Lupe will be remembered for her strength, her loving heart, her devotion to family, and the faith that carried her throughout her life. Her family finds comfort knowing she is now at peace in the loving presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She fought with courage. She loved with her whole heart. She lived for her family. And through it all, she kept her faith.

Her love, strength, and faith will live on in her family forever.

A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Assumption, 920 1st St. in Peekskill, on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:30 am. A private cremation ceremony is to follow.

Gerald William Parent
Gerald William Parent, known to everyone who loved him as “Jerry,” was born on Christmas Day, 1948, in Peekskill, New York. He died on July 16, 2026, at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Montrose, where he had been receiving care. He was 77 years old.
Jerry was the elder son of Clifford G. Parent and Gladys (Richards) Parent. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his younger brother, James C. Parent, who died in 2025.
A 1967 graduate of Yorktown High School, Jerry went on to study auto mechanics at Morrisville Community College and Hudson Valley Community College before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in June 1971. He served as a Lance Corporal and saw combat in Vietnam, completing multiple tours of duty before receiving an honorable discharge in February 1973.
His faith in God and in scripture was not incidental to who Jerry was — it was the through-line of everything. In service to that faith, he spent a year in France with Greater Europe Missions. He later studied in Canada for more than a decade, earning a Certificate in Biblical Studies from Ontario Theological Seminary in Toronto in 1985, and later, a Bachelor of Theology from McGill University in 1992.
For more than 20 years, Jerry served on the facilities staff at Loudonville Christian School in Loudonville, New York. He also served on the board of Camp Pinnacle in Voorheesville, New York, investing in an institution whose mission reflected his deepest values. He was a longtime member of Westerlo Baptist Church.
Jerry settled in Albany, where he made his home for more than 25 years. He loved the excitement of stock car races. One of his favorite hobbies was genealogical research and family history, leaving behind a body of written work that his family continues to build upon.
There wasn’t an engine he couldn’t fix and he never said no to a cookie.
Jerry is survived by his niece, Jenny Parent Meudt, and his nephew, Timothy Parent.
Private interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Peekskill. A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.

Albert Tinoco
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alberto Tinoco, who died peacefully on July 17, 2026, at the age of 81.
Alberto was born on November 9, 1944, in Sesmarias, Albufeira, Portugal. He lived a life defined by hard work, love for his family, and an unforgettable sense of humor. He spent many years working as a construction laborer, where he was known for his dedication, reliability, and pride in an honest day’s work.
Alberto found joy in the simple things that brought people together. He spent many years raising homing pigeons, loved tending to his garden, and took great pride in making homemade wine, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Blessed with an incredible memory and a playful spirit, Alberto was a true prankster who loved joking around and keeping everyone laughing. Whether pulling a harmless prank, telling a funny story, or reminiscing about years gone by, he had a special way of bringing smiles to those around him.
Above all, Alberto cherished time with his family, and nothing brought him greater happiness than being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His warmth, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Alberto’s greatest legacy is the love he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the unwavering devotion he showed to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on through the lives he touched and the cherished memories he leaves behind.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Tinoco; his daughter, Elizabeth Tinoco; Elizabeth’s life partner, Robert Carter; his granddaughter, Natasha Brickhouse; and his beloved great-grandsons, Mason and Carter Wallace. His family was the center of his world and the greatest source of his pride and joy.
The family received relatives and friends on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street in Peekskill, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 1969 Crompond Rd in Cortlandt Manor.
Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery.
The Tinoco family extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love, prayers, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
