Let’s Tell Our Stories Together

Over the last decade, there has been a huge shift in how news and information is distributed, and how newspapers stay alive. Print ads and subscriptions used to be a newspaper’s financial backbone, but with the transition to digital publishing, those long-standing revenue models have been disrupted.

Nowadays, in order for an online publication to survive, they have to pivot to digital advertising and/or paywalls.

At the Peekskill Herald, we have had to find creative ways to become viable, in order to fulfill our mission as a community resource that brings neighbors together. Paywalls are antithetical to that mission; so by eliminating printing and distribution costs and becoming nonprofit, we are sustained mostly by grants. Subscriptions have been replaced by member donations, and print ads have been replaced by business sponsorships.

But our strengths and contributions remain the same as local newspapers from all eras—trust, storytelling, and audience relationships. If you also believe in our mission for the community, and what we do is an asset to your business or organization, consider working with us on a sponsorship basis.

Together, we can find creative ways to leverage our journalistic tradition and significant online circulation base to benefit us all.
