Flag Football

Peekskill’s varsity flag football team saw its 2026 season come to an end on May 13, with a 35-0 loss to No. 4 Brewster in the first round of the Class B sectional tournament at Brewster High School.
The Red Devils finished the season with an overall record of 5-12. Despite the short postseason run, Peekskill has reason for optimism. Eighth graders Tylah Grant and All-Section quarterback Malaiya Farmer emerged as key playmakers, connecting for several touchdowns and giving the program a strong foundation for the future.
Peekskill will graduate three seniors from this year’s squad: Jackelin Alfaro, Odali Alfaro, and Edna Adu-Mensah.
Softball

On May 13, Peekskill earned a 17-3 road victory over Gorton. Inara Concepcion went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Audrina Mendez finished 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. Alyanne Mendez went 1-for-3 with a run scored, Alanah Preston was 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Emma Pena added a 2-for-3 performance.
Peekskill closed out the regular season with a 24-5 road loss to Roosevelt on May 18. Concepcion went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Mikayla Gonzalez finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Jenna Shurak was 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Ariannah Oviedo, Bella Zambrano, and Hailey Nube each went 1-for-3.
The Red Devils finished the regular season 10-8 overall.
Baseball

Peekskill honored seniors Dillon Sniffen, Elijah Resendes, Carter Ojeda, Hector Rijo, Rocco D’Elia, Yeuddi Munoz, and student manager Kinte Santiago on Senior Day, though the Red Devils fell to Lincoln, 11-4, on May 12.
Peekskill was led offensively by Jayden Bradby, who went 1-for-2 with a triple and two walks. Resendes finished 1-for-2 with a single and drew three walks, while Carter Ojeda and Hector Rijo each went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk.
Two days later (May 14), Peekskill closed out its 2026 season on a high note with an 11-7 victory over Woodlands at Alexander Hamilton High School in the consolation game of the Elmsford Classic.
Bradby got the start on the mound and delivered a dominant performance, tossing six innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out 13 batters — seven swinging and six looking. Ojeda came on in relief to close out the game, adding one strikeout. Both Bradby and Ojeda earned All-Tournament Team honors.
At the plate, Bradby went 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Ojeda, Sniffen, D’Elia, and Trevant McAllister each finished 1-for-3 with a single.
Reflecting on his debut season as head coach, Dontae Harris praised his team’s growth.
“The players this season did really well. Everyone improved physically & fundamentally. We learned how to face adversity head on & continued to stay positive in tough situations,” Harris noted in an email to the Peekskill Herald.
Looking ahead, Harris expressed optimism about the program’s future.
“Returning players will continue to get better as we will be doing summer workouts. Also some of the returning players will play on a summer team. We have a good group of returning players that gained a lot of experience during the season. I’m excited for their development,” he added.
Several Red Devils were recently recognized for their performances throughout the season. Carlos Perez earned All-League honorable mention honors, while Ojeda, Sniffen, D’Elia, McAllister, and Resendes were all named All-League. Bradby capped off his standout campaign by earning All-Section honorable mention, All-League honors, and being named Comeback Player of the League.
Peekskill finishes the 2026 season with an overall record of 5-11-1.
Track and Field

Peekskill’s track and field team competed in a quad meet against Alexander Hamilton, Haldane, and The Leffell School on May 14, where the Red Devils also honored their seniors during Senior Day.
On the boys side, Anderson Marin led the way with a first-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, crossing in 5:08.67. Oscar Curillo followed closely in second (5:08.99), while Marcello Rossi placed third (5:37.44). Gregory Tompkins earned second in the 400-meter dash (55.01). The 4×400-meter relay team of Curillo, Brandon Inga, Erick Quinche, and Justin Vizhnay took first in 3:53.99, while the 4×100-meter relay squad of Jacobs, Tompkins, Andrew Sharrock, and James Will placed second in 46.93. In the field events, Lamar Duncanson finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.30 meters.
For the girls, Amanda Nelson turned in a standout performance, winning both the 100-meter dash (13.76) and the long jump (4.41 meters). Luciana Bahr captured first in the 400-meter dash (1:05.33), while Valeria Otavalo placed third in the 800-meter run (2:58.52). In the field events, Hawa Sesay tied for second in the high jump after clearing 1.21 meters, and Charly Greenaway placed third in the shot put with a throw of 6.50 meters.
The co-ed mixed 4×100-meter relay team of Bahr, Nelson, Vizhnay, and Tompkins added another strong finish, placing second in 51.61.
Several Peekskill athletes also competed May 15-16 at the Westchester County Championships, held at Somers and Hendrick Hudson. Representing the Red Devils were Tompkins in the 100-meter preliminaries (50th, 11.88) and 400-meter dash (47th, 55.58), Curillo in the 800-meter run (62nd, 2:17.73), Jacobs in the javelin (17th, 31.44 meters), and Bahr in the girls 400-meter dash (50th, 1:09.75).
Peekskill will next send several athletes to the Westchester County JV North meet at Lakeland High School on Wednesday, May 20, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
College Watch

Track and Field — Division I At Day 2 of the MAC Outdoor Championships at Ball State University on May 15, Juliette Salazar (Peekskill ‘23) was the top finisher for the University at Buffalo in the preliminary round of the women’s 800 meters, placing 10th in 2:10.88. Although she narrowly missed the finals qualifying mark of 2:09.28, Salazar’s performance set a new personal record, eclipsing her previous best of 2:10.94 and moving her into a tie for seventh place in program history.
Track and Field — Division III Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill ‘23) placed fifth in the long jump at Day 1 of the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Outdoor Championships on May 13, recording a leap of 7.11 meters. His finish accounted for Plattsburgh State’s only points of the day.
Flag Football — USCAA Kiara Mercado (Peekskill ‘22) was recently named Villa Maria College’s Female Athlete of the Year. A standout member of both the women’s basketball and flag football teams, Mercado also earned NCFFL All-Star honors following an impressive flag football season.
