The 2026 season has come to an end for Peekskill’s varsity flag football team.

The Red Devils traveled to Brewster High School on Wednesday, May 13, to face the Brewster Bears in the first round of the Class B sectional tournament. Brewster, the No. 4 seed and a program with strong flag football pedigree, proved too much for a young Peekskill squad, shutting out the No. 13-seeded Red Devils, 35-0.

Peekskill head coach Tyrone Searight was not present for the game, with assistant coach Anthony Turner leading the team on the sidelines.

“The season was filled with ups and downs. Different injuries really hurt us,” said head coach Searight when reached by the Peekskill Herald.

“Our numbers were down a little this year, but the girls who did play were young,” he added. “We had three seniors, and everyone else is coming back next year.”

With several underclassmen and middle school players on the roster, Searight said he is optimistic about the future of the program — especially with the return of eighth-graders Tylah Grant and Malaiya Farmer. Farmer, who was recently named All-Section, starred at quarterback, while Grant showcased her versatility on both ends of the field this season. The pair connected for several scores during the campaign and, as Searight noted, “bring different qualities to the team.”

Peekskill finishes the 2026 season with an overall record of 5-12. The Red Devils graduate three seniors: Jackelin Alfaro, Odali Alfaro, and Edna Adu-Mensah.

As for Brewster, the Bears will host No. 5 Lakeland in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 16.
