A hidden treasure chest will await visitors at Mount St. Francis on Saturday, July 11, during its annual tag sale. The event, organized by the Franciscan Sisters, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The venue, located at 250 South St., will host the fundraiser for the congregation, whose presence in the city dates back to the 19th century.
Visitors will gather at the site around a wide selection of new and gently used items. The sale will feature household goods, small furniture pieces, clothing, accessories, gifts, seasonal decorations and framed artwork. Baked goods, hot dogs, french fries and beverages will also be available for those who wish to stay for lunch or take a break between purchases.
Organizers of the traditional tag sale have shared invitations to the event among members of the religious community through fliers and banners distributed throughout the city. They have also included the event on digital platforms and community sale databases. The Franciscan Sisters’ event is listed on Yard Sale Search and includes 60 photos.
There, interested shoppers can preview some of what they may find Saturday at the congregation’s location. Among the items shown in those photographs are antique dolls, vintage toys and several Barbie-related pieces, a detail that could spark the interest of collectors and enthusiasts of nostalgic items. The digital catalog also includes household goods, small appliances, dishware, decorations and more.
The congregation of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, founded in Italy in 1861, arrived in the United States in 1865 and established its provincial house at Mount St. Francis in Peekskill a few years later. Since then, the sisters have maintained a continuous presence in the community, dedicating themselves to education, the care of children and vulnerable individuals, pastoral service and various charitable works throughout the Hudson Valley. With more than a century and a half of history in the city, the congregation remains part of Peekskill’s religious and social heritage.
