Peekskill narrowly dropped a 6-0 decision to Walter Panas on the road on April 29 in a defensive showdown that saw the Red Devils hold firm until the fourth quarter, when the Panthers finally broke through.

Falling 14-13 after leading for most of the game, the Red Devils came up just short again on May 1 in a tough home matchup against state-ranked Lakeland. Eighth graders Malaiya Farmer and Tylah Grant connected early as Farmer threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Grant at the 2:04 mark for a 6-0 lead. Moments later, Farmer added a one-point conversion pass to Briannah Faican to extend the advantage to 7-0.

After forcing a safety in the second quarter, Lakeland scored its first touchdown with 7:33 remaining in the third to take an 8-7 lead. Grant answered in dramatic fashion at the 1:48 mark of the third, intercepting a pass deep in Peekskill territory and returning it the length of the field for a go-ahead pick-six that put Peekskill back in front, 13-8.

Lakeland, however, rallied in the closing minutes, scoring the game-winning 8-yard touchdown run with 3:31 to play to secure the 14-13 victory.

On May 4, Peekskill fell 19-0 to Fox Lane on the road.

Now 3-10 on the season, Peekskill closes out the regular season with a visit to Yorktown on Tuesday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m.; Senior Night at home against Ardsley on Wednesday, May 6, at 6 p.m.; and the season finale against Poughkeepsie on Thursday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m. at Torpy Field.

Softball

On April 30, Peekskill fell 8-4 to the Charter School of Educational Excellence (CSEE) in the opening round of the 2026 Elmsford Classic Softball Tournament. Jenna Shurak went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Audrina Mendez and Alyanne Mendez each finished 1-for-3. Bella Zambrano added a 1-for-2 performance at the plate.

The Red Devils bounced back on May 2 with a 20-6 victory over Woodlands in the tournament’s consolation game. Mikayla Gonzalez went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored; Alyanne Mendez was 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored; Zambrano finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored; and Khylee Capozzelli went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored. Gonzalez and Emma Pena earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.

Peekskill returned home for Senior Night on May 4 against Woodlands, claiming a 21-8 win. Prior to the game, seniors Inara Concepcion, Mikayla Gonzalez, Audrina Mendez, Ariannah Oviedo, Jenna Shurak, Bella Zambrano, and Kimoya Alford were honored for their contributions to the program.

On the field, Concepcion went 1-for-2 with three runs scored, Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with two runs, Audrina Mendez went 1-for-2 with a run, Oviedo was 1-for-2 with two runs, Alyanne Mendez went 1-for-2 with two runs, and Hailey Nube finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Up next, Peekskill (8-6) will travel to Sleepy Hollow on Thursday, May 7, for a 4:30 p.m. matchup before returning home Monday, May 11, to host the Barack Obama School for Social Justice at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball

A scheduled matchup against Yonkers Middle High School on April 30 was canceled, but the two teams later met on May 2 at Peekskill Stadium, where the Red Devils earned a 14-7 victory.

Freshman Carlos Perez made his first career varsity start on the mound, earning his first varsity win with a complete-game effort. Over seven innings, Perez allowed three earned runs while striking out five batters.

At the plate, Jayden Brady went 2-for-4 with a double and a single and was hit by a pitch. Dillon Sniffen finished 1-for-3 with a triple, drew a walk, and was also hit by a pitch. Trevant McAllister went 2-for-2 with two singles and two walks, while Elijah Resendes was 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk. Hector Rijo, Yeuddi Munoz and Justin Chillogallo each went 1-for-4 with a single.

On May 4, Peekskill fell 21-4 to East Ramapo at home. Bradby went 2-for-3, while Sniffen, Rijo, and Rocc D’Elia all went 1-for-2.

Peekskill (4-7-1) will next travel to Fleming Field to take on Lincoln on Friday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m. The Red Devils will then compete in a tournament at Alexander Hamilton High School on Saturday, May 9, before traveling to Saunders on Monday, May 11, for another 4:30 p.m. matchup.

Track and Field

The Red Devils competed in the Section 1 League G Championships at Hendrick Hudson High School on April 28, facing off against Hendrick Hudson, Byram Hills, and Sleepy Hollow.

For the boys, Gregory Tompkins placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.59, while Oscar Curillo finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:15.26. Curillo also took fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:11.93. In the field events, Craig Jacobs earned third place in the javelin throw with a toss of 28.24 meters.

On the girls side, Amanda Nelson placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (14.19) and third in the long jump (4.33 meters). Luciana Bahr finished third in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.87, while Valeria Otavalo took fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:59.74.

Peekskill is off this week but will return to action on Thursday, May 14, when the Red Devils host a quad meet for Senior Night beginning at 5 p.m.

College Watch

Flag Football — USCAA Kiara Mercado (Peekskill ‘22) and the Villa Maria College women’s flag football team defeated Sienna Heights University (Mich.), 13-12, in pool play at the NCFFL National Championship Tournament on May 2.

After falling behind early, 12-0, Mercado helped spark the comeback by returning an interception 40 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 12-6. It marked her third pick-six of the season.

On May 3, Mercado again made an impact in a 31-0 quarterfinal win over St. Joseph’s University (Brooklyn), catching a second-quarter pass to extend Villa Maria’s lead to 19-0.

Later that day, Villa Maria fell to eventual national champion Sienna Heights, 22-14, in the semifinals. Mercado anchored the defense with eight tackles in the effort.

Mercado and three other Villa Maria athletes were later named NCFFL All-Stars. According to Villa Maria College Athletics, she entered the national tournament as the team’s leading rusher and top tackler.

Track and Field — Division III At the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championships on May 1, Plattsburgh State Cardinals junior Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill ‘23) captured silver in the long jump with a leap of 6.99 meters at the outdoor conference meet. His performance not only qualified him for the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships but also earned him All-SUNYAC second-team honors.

Ritter was recently nominated for Male Athlete of the Year and the Play of the Year Award for his long jump at the SUNYAC indoor championships during the 2025-26 season. While he did not win either award, he received a Cardinal Award, presented to one member from each varsity program in recognition of athletic performance, leadership, and personal development.
