Flag Football

On April 21, Peekskill traveled to Lakeland and was overmatched by the Hornets in a 25-2 loss. The Red Devils showed much more resilience on April 23, hosting Yorktown (No. 2 in Class B), but still came up short, 34-20.

Malaiya Farmer led the offense with a 3-yard touchdown run and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Alani Jacobs, while also adding two one-point conversion runs. On the defensive side, Tylah Grant made a big play with an interception return for a touchdown.

Peekskill (3-7) returns to action on Wednesday, April 29, with a road game at Walter Panas at 4:30 p.m. They will then host Lakeland on Friday, May 1, at 4:30 p.m., before traveling to Fox Lane on Monday, May 4, also at 4:30 p.m.

Softball

The Red Devils fell 21-8 on the road to Mount Vernon on April 22, after previously defeating the Knights 21-10 on April 10. In the loss, Audrina Mendez went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, Ariannah Oviedo finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, Alyanne Mendez was 1-for-2 with a run, Bella Zambrano went 1-for-2 with a run, and Inara Concepcion added a 1-for-3 performance with two runs scored.

Peekskill bounced back on April 24 with a narrow 6-5 home victory over East Ramapo. At the plate, Mendez went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, Oviedo was 2-for-3 with a steal, and Milan Smith finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. In the circle, Mikayla Gonzalez struck out 11 over seven innings; she also contributed offensively, going 1-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.

On April 27, Peekskill earned a 15-3 home win over Alexander Hamilton — its second victory over the Raiders this season. Inara Concepcion reached base in all four plate appearances, going 1-for-1 with three walks and three runs scored. Audrina Mendez and Milan Smith each went 1-for-3, with Smith scoring twice. Oviedo finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, while Jenna Shurak drew four walks and scored three runs. In the circle, Gonzalez recorded five strikeouts over five innings; she also reached base three times via walks and scored three runs.

Now 6-5, Peekskill will travel to Alexander Hamilton on Thursday, April 30, for a 4:30 p.m. tournament game. Depending on the outcome, the Red Devils will play either a 9 a.m. consolation game or an 11:30 a.m. championship game on Saturday, May 2. Peekskill returns home on Monday, May 4, for Senior Night against East Ramapo at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball

Peekskill put together two strong victories over a six-day stretch this week.

On April 22, the Red Devils defeated Poughkeepsie on the road, 10-0. Jayden Bradby got the start on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing just one hit while striking out 11 batters — 10 of them looking. At the plate, he went 1-for-3 with a walk. Carter Ojeda and Dillion Sniffen each went 2-for-4 with a double and a single. Trevant McAllister finished 1-for-3 with a walk, while Rocco D’Elia went 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. Elijah Resendes added a 1-for-2 performance with a double and a walk.

Following this game, Bradby was nominated for Lohud’s Baseball Player of the Week. The online poll is open til Wednesday, April 29, at 3 p.m. and the winner will be announced on Lohud’s pages. 

The Red Devils followed up that performance with a 15-8 road win over East Ramapo on April 27. Bradby again got the start, pitching six innings while allowing four runs and striking out seven. Ojeda closed out the game with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Bradby led the way, going 5-for-6 with two doubles and three singles. Ojeda and D’Elia each went 3-for-5 with three singles apiece. Sniffen and Resendes both finished 2-for-4 with a walk. McAllister went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. Orgenis Arroyo went 2-for-5 with two singles, recording his first career varsity hits, while Christopher Badia went 1-for-2 for his first varsity hit.

Up next, Peekskill (3-6-1) travels to Yonkers on Thursday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m., before hosting Yonkers at Peekskill Stadium on Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. The Red Devils will also host East Ramapo on Monday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m.

Track and Field 

Peekskill hosted a meet against John Jay (East Fishkill) and Ketcham on April 21.

On the boys side, Gregory Tompkins III placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.06) and second in the 200-meter dash (24.38). Oscar Curillo took fourth in the 800-meter run (2:15.62) and third in the 1,600-meter run (5:02.68).

For the girls, Luciana Bahr finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (14.14) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (30.55). Erika Otavalo placed fourth in the 800-meter run (3:06.21), while Amanda Nelson finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 3.89 meters. Ana Hernandez added a fourth-place finish in the shot put (5.47 meters).

On April 25, the Peekskill boys team traveled to the Mamaroneck Relays, while the girls team competed at the Croton Relays.

For the boys, Tamick Tompkins placed fourth in the high jump (1.57 meters). The team of Ty Dwyer, Brian Cater-Roberson, Joan Cruz, and Daniel Hoilett won the junior varsity 4×200-meter relay in 1:53.56. Another Peekskill team—Tamick Tompkins, Kenrick Modeste, Andrew Sharrock, and Alexander Sucuzhanay—finished second in the same event in 1:53.66. The quartet of Cater-Roberson, Gavin Tobey, Julian Ortiz, and John Pastusaca took second in the junior varsity 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (4:38.00).

At Croton, the girls team of Jackeline Soberano, Michell Paute, Ava Walko, and Hawa Sesay finished second in the Class JV 4×100-meter relay with a time of 1:02.67.
