Hen Hud has opened the 2026 season in strong fashion. Much like last year — when the Sailors began 6-0 — they are off to an even stronger start, sitting at 7-0 after three wins this past week, tied for first place in Class A.

On April 11, Hen Hud delivered a dominant road performance against Sleepy Hollow, shutting out the Horsemen, 16-0. Angelina Carbone led the offense with two doubles and a single, driving in three runs. Emma Barbelet and Madison Parkes each collected three hits, with Barbelet also adding two RBIs. Stella Krebser contributed a triple and a single with an RBI, while Emma Johannsen and McKenna Silverman each drove in two runs. Jasmyne Kessler added an RBI. In the circle, Barbelet earned the win with five shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 10.

Two days later, on April 13, the Sailors extended their streak with an 8-2 road win over Edgemont. Lillian Tomlinson led the offense with three hits and three RBIs. Carbone added a single and a home run, finishing with two RBIs. Barbelet contributed a single, a double, and an RBI. Bella Booth also drove in a run. Barbelet pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out seven and walking one over seven innings.

Hen Hud returned home on April 15 to face fellow unbeaten Ardsley (3-0) and earned a 12-5 victory. Booth led the offense with a triple and a single, driving in three runs. Johannsen had two doubles and three RBIs, while Carbone added two hits and an RBI. Barbelet added a triple and an RBI.

Tomlinson, Silverman, Sophia Velardo, and Hope McKay each recorded RBI singles. Kessler had three hits, and Krebser added a single. In the circle, Barbelet earned the win with another complete-game effort, striking out six over seven innings.

Hen Hud (7-0) will next travel to Scenic Hudson Park to face Irvington on Friday, April 17, at 4:30 p.m, and host Pleasantville on Tuesday, April 21, at 4:45 p.m.

Baseball

After defeating Yorktown in the opening round, Hen Hud narrowly fell 1-0 to Horace Greeley in the Briarcliff Booster Club Tournament final on April 11. Danny Hernandez delivered a complete-game one-hitter in the tough-luck loss.

The Sailors then dropped a 7-2 decision at Pelham on April 13, followed by a 5-2 setback to Lakeland on April 15, with Gabe Negron and AJ Rambin each driving in a run.

Now 3-6 on the season, Hen Hud returns home on Saturday, April 18, to host Ossining at 12 p.m. The Sailors will then travel to Somers on Tuesday, April 21, at 4:30 p.m., before hosting Somers on Thursday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m.

Flag Football

Could Hen Hud make a run at a second straight Class C title? With three wins in three games and a six-game winning streak, the Sailors are building a strong case.

On April 10, Hen Hud earned a 15-6 road win over Woodlands. Quarterback Nicole Facciolo completed 14 of 27 passes and added a rushing touchdown. Maria Ribeiro led the offense with 52 rushing yards and six catches for 42 yards, a touchdown, and an extra point, while Rachel Budde chipped in three receptions for 39 yards. Defensively, Ribeiro had eight tackles, including four for loss, and three passes tipped, while Charlotte Gaspar added an interception.

The Sailors returned home on April 13 and defeated Dobbs Ferry, 18-6, behind a strong offensive showing. Facciolo threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Ribeiro hauled in eight catches for 88 yards, Budde added four receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown, and Arianna Byers recorded two catches for 69 yards and two scores. Kate Stratton (two catches, 10 yards) and Gaspar (three catches, 30 yards) also contributed. On defense, Marlee Picarello had eight tackles and two pass breakups. Gaspar totaled four pass breakups and an interception, while Ribeiro added six tackles, two for loss, a sack, and a pass tipped. Stratton finished with two tackles, two sacks, and two passes tipped.

Two days later, on April 15, Hen Hud shut out Irvington 25-0 on the road in a complete team defensive effort. Ribeiro led the way with six tackles, a sack, an interception returned for a touchdown, and a pass tipped. Stratton added five tackles, while Budde and Gaspar each recorded interceptions. Offensively, Facciolo threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns, and Christina Barry added 211 passing yards and a score. Adriana Acevedo recorded her first touchdown on a two-yard run. Ribeiro contributed five receptions for 51 yards, Arianna Byers had two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown, Budde added two for 18 yards and a score, Stratton had one reception for 11 yards, and Anabelle Byers added a 24-yard catch.

Hen Hud (6-1) will host Byram Hills on Monday, April 20 at 4:30 p.m., before traveling to Somers on Wednesday, April 22 for another 4:30 p.m. matchup.

Girls Lacrosse 

Junior captain Carleigh Ortiz surpassed 100 career goals in a 13-4 road loss to Briarcliff on April 11, scoring twice in the milestone effort. Ortiz has been a fixture in the Hen Hud girls lacrosse program since 2023 and has elevated her game this year following the graduation of key contributors.

“Carleigh has been a member of our varsity program since 8th grade, competing alongside some of the most productive players to come through Hendrick Hudson. Through it all, she has stayed committed, put in the work, and earned every bit of this milestone,” head coach Robert Porter wrote to the Peekskill Herald.

“I’ve told Carleigh all season this is her time. This is her team to lead as we continue to build, and she has embraced that responsibility every step of the way. We are extremely proud of her for achieving this accomplishment and look forward to seeing her continue to lift those around her,” he added.

Also contributing in the loss were Kinsley Steinhiser (1 goal), Bridget Couch (1 goal), and Kelsey Wong (15 saves).

Hen Hud also dropped a 19-9 decision at John Jay–Cross River on April 14, highlighted by an eight-point performance from Ortiz (7 goals, 1 assist) and six saves from Wong, who reached the 100-save milestone for her career. Couch finished with one goal and three assists, while Steinhiser added a goal and an assist.

Commenting on Wong, Porter said, “Kelsey Wong has been exceptional for us in goal this season, recording double-digit save performances throughout the year. After seeing limited varsity time last season, she has really stepped up her game in the cage.” With the milestone, Wong becomes the first Hen Hud female goalkeeper to reach 100 saves since Maddy Porter, a Class of 2023 graduate now playing Division I lacrosse at Eastern Michigan.

Porter also praised newcomer Kinsley Steinhiser: “Kinsley is definitely a player to watch as she continues to gain valuable experience playing alongside Bridget and Carleigh in the midfield.”

Hen Hud (0-8) returns home to host Lakeland/Panas on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m.

Boys Lacrosse

Hen Hud mounted a strong comeback after falling behind 15-7 in the third quarter, but ultimately came up short in a 19-14 road loss to Dobbs Ferry on April 13.

Chris Barreiros led the Sailors with eight points, recording one goal and seven assists. Vann Pastolove contributed three goals and two assists, while Lucas Beloff added four goals. Matt Lennox scored three times, and Richie Simonetti finished with two goals and two assists. Ethan Walsh chipped in a goal and two assists. Ruben Villeda won 11 of 20 faceoffs and collected nine ground balls.

Hen Hud (1-4) will look to bounce back when it travels to John Jay East Fishkill High School to take on Wappingers at 4:45 p.m.

Track and Field

Sophia Savatgy, Alexis Smith, Isabella Veloz, and Oona McManus set a new school record at the Green Dragon Relays in Cornwall on April 11, winning the sprint medley relay in 4:16.02.

McManus (second, 1.52 meters) also teamed with Liadan Farrell (21st, 1.21 m) to place third in the high jump relay. Isabelle Carvalho, Chloe Howard, Ava Schembari, and Rachael Anderson finished third in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 11:02.02.

On the boys side, Jackson Morley won the freshman/sophomore 200-meter steeplechase in 6:54.33, while Cosmo Vogt placed fourth in the varsity race at 7:08.42. Olivier Birotte (sixth, 1:01.31), Taiten Robinson (14th, 1:04.39), and Stylz Wilson (23rd, 1:08.10) combined to finish fourth in the 400-meter hurdle relay. Sebastian Willkehr placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 2.89 meters.

Vivek Sekhri, Kenneth Mora, Juan Espinoza, and Victor Delgado finished second in the distance medley relay (10:51.83). Birotte, Robinson, and Wilson took second in the shuttle hurdles (50.42), while Mora, Delgado, Perry Quaye, and Salpreme Taylor placed fifth in the sprint medley relay (3:43.39).

Hen Hud athletes also competed in a tri-meet at Yorktown High School on April 13 against Yorktown and Mahopac. Savatgy led the girls with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocking 55.83 and breaking her own school record set last year. Head coach Marcia Bailey told Peekskill Herald  the performance ranks Savatgy as the No. 1 400-meter runner in New York State.

Michelle Ikokwu won the 100-meter dash (13.35) and 200-meter dash (28.00), and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (19.63). Elyse Smith placed second in both the 100-meter (13.37) and 200-meter (28.20) dashes. Alexis Smith was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.85), while Isabella Veloz finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.87). Abigail Mazzoni took fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:08.36), Ava Schembari was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:38.57), and Isabelle Carvalho placed third in the 1,500-meter run (5:24.90). The team of Ikokwu, Savatgy, Alexis Smith, and Elyse Smith won the 4×100-meter relay in 50.77.

In field events, Harleigh Corcoran won both the discus (27.86 m) and shot put (8.76 m). Mia Goodenow placed third in the discus (23.49 m) and fourth in the shot put (7.74 m). Liadan Farrell finished fourth in the high jump (1.21 m), and Elyse Smith was fifth in the long jump (3.65 m).

For the boys, Perry Quaye won the 100-meter dash (11.27), 200-meter dash (22.99), and high jump (1.72 meters). Olivier Birotte took first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.31), while Victor Delgado won both the 800-meter run (2:02.41) and 1,600-meter run (4:30.23). Stylz Wilson placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (18.75), and Salpreme Taylor was third in the 200-meter dash (23.80). Kenneth Mora finished second in the 400-meter run (54.19), and Birotte added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.08).

Vivek Sekhri placed second in the 800-meter run (2:04.51) and second in the 1,600-meter run (4:51.95), while Daniel Valdez finished third in both events (2:10.78 and 4:54.88, respectively). The team of Daniel Basini, Matthew MacGilvray, D’hadi Lovelace, and Yamil Melendez won the 4×100-meter relay in 53.82. Delgado, Morley, Valdez, and Sekhri captured the 4×400-meter relay in 3:45.59.

In the field events, Yamil Melendez won the discus (35.81 m) and shot put (11.83 m). Salpreme Taylor won the long jump (6.01 m), and William McKinley took first in the triple jump (12.23 m). Basini finished second in the discus (31.16 m), and Robinson was runner-up in the long jump (5.34 m). MacGilvray placed second in the shot put at 11.60 meters.

Up next, the Sailors will compete at the Red Raider Relays at North Rockland High School on April 17-18. Hen Hud athletes will also take part in the 2026 New York Relays at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island on April 18, beginning at 9 a.m. In addition, Hen Hud will travel to Putnam Valley High School on Wednesday, April 22, for a dual-meet at 4:30 p.m.

Boys Tennis

Hen Hud dropped a 5-0 decision to Briarcliff on the road April 10, then fell 5-2 to Ardsley on April 13.

In the Ardsley match, Benjamin Kushnir earned a straight-sets singles victory, 6-4, 6-0, while the doubles team of Niels Pfeiffer and Sebastien Cruz also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

The Sailors (1-4) will next travel to Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School to face Croton on Friday, April 17, at 4:30 p.m., before heading to Blind Brook for a 4:30 p.m. match on Tuesday, April 21.

Golf

A scheduled match against Putnam Valley on April 15 has been rescheduled to May 13.

On April 16, Hen Hud was set to face Haldane but was unable to compete as a full team, with only two players available. According to head coach Derek Kisslinger, the rest of the roster was away on a school trip. Ryder Boston carded a 47, while Nick DeFrenza posted a 59.

Hen Hud returns to action on Monday, April 20, when it takes on Sleepy Hollow at Hollow Brook Golf Club at 4 p.m. The team will then travel to The Powelton Club to face Newburgh Free Academy on Tuesday, April 21, at 3 p.m. On Wednesday, April 22, Hen Hud will host Lakeland/Panas at Hollow Brook Golf Club at 3:45 p.m.

College Watch

Women’s Lacrosse — Division I Eastern Michigan’s Maddy Porter (Hen Hud Class of 2023) recorded 16 saves, along with six ground balls and one caused turnover, in a 14-4 loss to UMass on April 11. Her 16 saves are tied for the fourth-highest single-game total in program history and match the Mid-American Conference (MAC) single-game mark, which she also reached earlier this season against Kent State (March 14). The performance also marked the third time in 2026 that Porter has recorded 16 or more saves in a game, including a season-high 21 at Vanderbilt on March 4.

Women’s Lacrosse — Division I Kayla McCarthy (Hen Hud Class of 2025) scored two goals for Long Island University in a 10-7 win over Le Moyne on April 12. The outing marked her first career multi-goal game.

Women’s Lacrosse — Division II Victoria Calabro (Hen Hud Class of 2025) tallied three goals and two assists in St. Thomas Aquinas’ 18-11 win over the University of the District of Columbia on April 11. She was subsequently named East Coast Conference (ECC) Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on April 13 after back-to-back standout performances, totaling eight goals, two assists, nine ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

Track and Field — Division III At the RPI Friday Night Under the Lights Invitational on April 10, Vermont State Castleton’s Karli Marin (Hen Hud Class of 2023) placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.05 meters. The throw set a new program record and met the New England regional qualifying standard.

Softball — Division III Kyra Johnsen (Hen Hud Class of 2023) delivered a strong performance in Sarah Lawrence’s doubleheader sweep of York College on April 13. In Game 1 (17-3 win), she went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs, one stolen base, and contributed defensively with one putout and one assist. In Game 2 (16-7 win), Johnsen went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, one walk, and one assist.

Men’s Lacrosse — Division III Thomas Popolizio (Hen Hud Class of 2023) scored two goals in Scranton’s 17-5 win over Catholic University on April 11.

On April 15, teammate Dean Hiltsley (Hen Hud Class of 2023) recorded three goals and one assist in a 30-6 victory over Wilkes University.

Baseball — Division III Michael Gagliardi (Hen Hud Class of 2023) contributed a standout performance in Susquehanna’s 13-7 win over Drew University (Game 2) on April 11. He went 2-for-2 with one run scored, four RBIs, a double, two walks, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly, while adding two putouts and one assist in the field. Susquehanna also won Game 1, 10–6.
