The 2026 season has come to an end for the Hen Hud Sailors.

On May 16, the second-seeded Sailors hosted No. 7 Byram Hills in a Class C sectional quarterfinal showdown. The two teams split their regular-season meetings, with Hen Hud earning a 25-19 victory on April 20 before falling 38-32 on May 2.

But in the rubber match, the Bobcats came out on top. Behind two first-half rushing touchdowns from freshman Amelia Amenado, Byram Hills secured a 14-6 victory over Hen Hud to punch its ticket to the semifinals. (Read the full game recap here.)

Saturday’s loss marked head coach Craig Solomon’s final game as an employee of the Hendrick Hudson School District. The veteran coach will retire at the end of the school year after 32 years as a physical education teacher.

Despite the early postseason exit, Hen Hud had several athletes earn postseason honors, including Maria Ribeiro (Class C Co-Defensive Player of the Year, All-Section, and All-League), Kate Stratton (All-Section and All-League), Charlotte Gaspar (All-Section and All-League), and Arianna Byers (All-League).

Hen Hud finishes the 2026 campaign with an overall record of 10-6-1. The Sailors will graduate six seniors: Shayla Cachay, Antonia Cooper, Sofia Donikyan (manager), Marlee Picarello, Jonna Rivera, and Kate Stratton.

Softball

After a few late-season hiccups, Hen Hud closed the regular season strong with back-to-back victories.

On May 15, the Sailors earned a 5-1 road win over Walter Panas behind another dominant outing from Emma Barbelet. The senior went the distance, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out nine. Offensively, Emma Johannsen collected a single and a double, while Lillian Tomlinson and Hope McKay each recorded two hits. Angelina Carbone doubled, Sheyla Cortorreal singled and drove in two runs, Bella Booth added a single and an RBI, and both Barbelet and Jasmyne Kessler chipped in singles.

Hen Hud capped the regular season with a complete performance in a 17-1 rout of neighboring Croton-Harmon on May 18. Johannsen led the offense with three singles, a triple, and three RBIs, while Booth finished with a single, a triple, and four RBIs. Tomlinson and Carbone each contributed a single and two RBIs, and Stella Krebser added two hits and two RBIs. McKenna Silverman, Kessler, and McKay each had a single and an RBI, while Barbelet contributed two hits. In the circle, she tossed all seven innings, striking out seven, allowing five hits, and issuing no walks.

Up next, Hen Hud (17-3) enters the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the Class A softball tournament and will host No. 14 Westlake in a first-round matchup on Friday, May 22, at 5 p.m. The winner advances to the quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 26, to face the winner of No. 6 Tappan Zee vs. No. 11 Pleasantville.

Baseball

No. 13 Hen Hud was eliminated from the Class A sectional tournament by No. 4 Nanuet in the opening round on May 16, falling 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Jake Hentze took the loss for the Sailors after pitching three innings in relief. He allowed two hits, one earned run, walked one, hit one batter, and struck out two. At the plate, Hentze went 2-for-4, doubling, scoring once, and driving in two runs.

Starter Danny Hernandez pitched 3.1 innings, surrendering three hits and three earned runs while walking one, hitting one batter, and striking out two.

Jack Hiltsley finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Thomas Ferguson collected two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. AJ Rambin doubled, scored, and added an RBI. Benji Lynch also had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Gabe Negron contributed a double and a walk for Hen Hud.

“Very proud of the team all season long,” head coach Van Vourliotis told the Peekskill Herald. “They did everything that was asked of them and more. Going to miss our senior class greatly.”

The Sailors finished the season 6-15 overall. The program will graduate eight seniors: Aiden Lawless, Brandon Block, Jack Hiltsley, Lucas Tangredi, Kevin Paredes, Jet Caracappa, Jake Hentze, and Alfred Roush.

Girls Lacrosse

Hen Hud closed out the regular season with a 16-7 home loss to Ursuline on May 19. Carleigh Ortiz scored four goals, raising her season total to 85. Avery Cody, Norah Devine, and Mackenzie De Prado each added a goal, while Bridget Couch recorded an assist. Goalie Kelsey Wong made seven saves.

Now 4-12 overall, the Sailors narrowly qualified for the postseason as the No. 12 seed in the Class C sectional tournament. Hen Hud will travel to face No. 5 Tappan Zee in the opening round on Friday, May 22, at 4:15 p.m. The winner advances to meet No. 4 John Jay-Cross River in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 26.

Boys Lacrosse

Chris Barreiros (3G, 1A), Lucas Beloff (3G), and Vann Pastolove (1G, 1A) paced the Sailors in a 12-7 road loss to Ossining on May 15. Connor Butts contributed one assist and five ground balls, while Ethan Walsh added one assist and three ground balls. In goal, Tim Palmer made 16 saves.

Hen Hud returned home for its season finale on May 19 and narrowly fell 10-9 to Edgemont. Pastolove led the offense with four goals and one assist, while Beloff added three goals and five ground balls. Barreiros finished with two goals and two assists. Butts added an assist and five ground balls, Matt Lennox recorded one assist and one ground ball, and Walsh and Bernie Calabro each collected six ground balls. Palmer stopped 10 shots against Edgemont.

“We have a young, tough group of guys that came together as a team,” head coach William Loftin told the Herald. “Our seniors this year have created an extremely sound foundation for the younger guys to build on.”

Hen Hud finished the season with a 2-14 record. The Sailors will graduate six seniors: Richie Simonetti, Ethan Walsh, Matt Lennox, Justin Fernandez, Eric Selvaggi, and Shawn O’Mara.

Track and Field

At the Westchester County Championships on May 15-16, Hen Hud produced several top finishes across multiple events. Perry Quaye led the boys team with a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters. He also placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.05 seconds. Olivier Birotte finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.07), while Daniel Valdez took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:56.90 and Jackson Morley placed fifth in 11:07.70. Taiten Robinson earned runner-up honors in the pentathlon with 2,730 points.

On the girls side, Chloe Howard captured the 1,500-meter race walk title in 7:54.26. Sophia Savatgy placed second in the 200-meter dash (25.29) and third in the 400-meter dash (57.17). Oona McManus finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:51.27, while Mia Goodenow placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 22.83 meters. In relay action, Savatgy, Michelle Ikokwu, Alexis Smith, and Elyse Smith finished third in the 4×100-meter relay in 50.03. McManus, Savatgy, Abigail Mazzoni, and Isabelle Carvalho placed seventh in the 4×400-meter relay, posting a season-best time of 4:12.64.

Both the boys and girls teams finished as Class B runners-up in the team standings.

Hen Hud then hosted its annual Field Fest on May 18 against several schools. William McKinley won the triple jump with a leap of 12.59 meters, while Hunter Kennedy-Brown placed third at 12.20 meters. Kennedy-Brown also finished third in the high jump, clearing 1.67 meters. Sebastian Willkehr and James Orengo tied for fifth in the pole vault at 2.74 meters.

Two days later, on May 20, several Hen Hud athletes competed at the Westchester County JV Championships at Lakeland High School. Isaiah Byers won the long jump with a mark of 5.95 meters, while McKinley was second at 5.86 meters. Joseph DeSocio placed third in the 100-meter dash in 11.88, with Byers finishing fifth in 12.10. DeSocio also took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.87.

For the girls, Isabella Veloz finished second in the 200-meter dash (28.96) and fourth in the 100-meter dash (14.29). Sofia Klinger was runner-up in the 800-meter run in 2:55.39, and Aribella Rivera placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.14 meters.

Hen Hud will next host and compete in the Section 1 Class B Championships on Wednesday, May 27, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Boys Tennis

Seniors Ezra Smith and Nicholas Gatto competed in the Section 1 doubles tournament on May 16 at Harrison High School, falling 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round to Eastchester’s Kazuki Yoshimi and Hugo Tsuneizumi.

The 2026 season has now concluded for Hen Hud. The boys team finished with a 3-7 record.

College Watch

Baseball — Division III After helping lead Susquehanna University to a successful 26-16 season, Michael Gagliardi (Hen Hud ‘23) earned first-team All-Landmark Conference honors, becoming one of eight River Hawks recognized on the 2026 all-conference team. One of only two players to start all 42 games, Gagliardi batted .341 with 56 hits, including six home runs and 10 doubles, while posting a .431 on-base percentage with 28 walks and 88 total bases. He recorded a season-high four hits in a May 2 win over Wilkes University, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Gagliardi also enjoyed a power surge in late March and early April, hitting four home runs over a six-game stretch against The Catholic University of America, Moravian University, and Lycoming College.
