Girls Basketball

Hen Hud leaned on stifling defense to secure a 37-18 home win over Putnam Valley on Jan. 21, improving to 10-2 on the season.
The Sailors jumped out early behind crisp ball movement and strong shooting from Avery Motko, who knocked down two first-quarter three-pointers to help Hen Hud build a 14-5 lead. Hen Hud continued to control the game in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition. Elyse Smith and Kate Stratton scored inside, while Maria Ribeiro added two free throws as the Sailors took a 24-6 advantage into halftime.
Putnam Valley found some offense in the third quarter, including a deep three, but Hen Hud answered each run. Motko buried her third three of the night, and Stratton finished off a series of quick passes to keep the Sailors firmly in control at 33-13 entering the fourth.
Hen Hud closed out the game with disciplined play and lockdown defense. Sophia Velardo’s layup capped the scoring as the Sailors sealed the 37-18 victory. Stratton finished with 10 points, while Motko had nine.
Despite being their lowest-scoring game of the season, the Sailors’ defense carried the day. Up next, Hen Hud will host Croton on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 4 p.m. for Senior Night honoring Elyse Smith and Kate Stratton.
Boys Basketball

A scheduled away game at Carmel on Jan. 17 was postponed due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Feb. 6 at 6:15 p.m.
Hen Hud returned to action on Jan. 21 after a 12-day layoff but fell on the road to Putnam Valley, 60-41. Justin Parkes led the Sailors with 10 points, while Kane Wamack added nine. Jack Marinelli paced Putnam Valley with a game-high 20 points.
Now 4-6 on the season, Hen Hud returns home on Friday, Jan. 23, to face Blind Brook at 6:45 p.m. The Sailors will also host Rye Neck on Saturday, Jan. 24, at noon for Senior Night. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Sailors and the other teams competing that day, which promises a full slate of basketball, games, and fun. Hen Hud will then host John Jay Cross River on Monday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m., before traveling to Briarcliff on Wednesday, Jan. 28, for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.
Indoor Track

Hen Hud competed at the Section 1 League Champs #4 on Jan. 19 at The Armory in New York City, with both the boys and girls Sailors teams finishing second overall.
On the boys side, Victor Delgado delivered a standout performance, winning the 1,000-meter run in a new school record of 2:33.71. He also captured first place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:51.45 and anchored the winning 4×800-meter relay alongside Jackson Morley, Danny Valdez, and Cosmo Vogt. Morley placed third in the 3,200-meter run, clocking 10:50.41. Valdez finished third in both the 1,000-meter run (2:54.61) and the 1,600-meter run (5:02.15).
Perry Quaye won the high jump with a leap of 1.83 meters and took first in the triple jump at 12.11 meters. Matthew MacGilvray captured first place in the weight throw at 11.75 meters. The 4×200-meter relay team of Matthew Sullivan, Theo Tieche, Ramy Lopez, and Isaac Figueroa finished second in 1:42.04. William McKinley placed third in the triple jump at 11.56 meters, while Taiten Robinson finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.73 meters.
For the girls, Sophia Savatgy claimed first place in both the 55-meter dash (7.28) and the 300-meter dash (40.26). She also teamed up with Oona McManus, Ava Schembari, and Danica Kostulas to win the 4×400-meter relay in 4:20.82. McManus added victories in the 1,000-meter run (3:13.55) and the high jump with a leap of 1.45 meters.
Harleigh Corcoran won the weight throw at 9.70 meters, while Theresa Gyapong placed second at 7.07 meters and won the shot put with a throw of 8.86 meters. Chloe Howard captured first place in the 1,500-meter race walk with a time of 7:42.90. Schembari finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run. The 4×800-meter relay team of Howard, Rachael Anderson, Isabelle Carvalho, and Sophia Klinger placed second in 11:29.04. Elizabeth Apienti finished third in the shot put at 7.94 meters.
Next up, the Sailors will compete at the Westchester County Championships on Saturday, Jan. 24, at The Armory, beginning at 6 p.m.
Wrestling
After being rescheduled twice due to snow, the Hen Hud Sailors finally returned to the mats on Jan. 19, competing in the 45th Annual Eric D’Agnese Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Somers High School. Hen Hud placed 13th overall in the 15-team field, led by Rocco Carbone, who finished fifth at 118 pounds. Andherson Clark (138 pounds) and Sebastian Willkehr (144) each placed eighth in their respective weight classes.
The following day, Jan. 20, the Sailors dropped a 42-18 dual-meet decision to Edgemont. Ruben Villeda (132 pounds) and Jovani Beltran (150) earned victories by pin, while Antonio Carbone (118) secured a 7-0 decision and Rocco Carbone (126) won by an 8-3 decision.
Hen Hud suffered another setback in a closer contest on Jan. 22, falling to Pawling, 48-36. Rocco Carbone (132), Villeda (138), Willkehr (150), Beltran (157), and Bernard Calabro (190) all recorded wins by fall.
The Sailors are scheduled to compete next at the Westchester County Championships on Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. Hen Hud will then host East Ramapo, Hastings, and Mahopac in a tri-meet on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 4:30 p.m., followed by Senior Night against Ardsley on Thursday, Jan. 29, also at 4:30 p.m.
Bowling
Hen Hud bowling honored its seniors with a special pregame ceremony ahead of its match against North Salem on Jan. 21 at Hudson Lanes and Games. The seniors recognized were Lucas Tangredi, Jet Caracapa, Matteo Velardo, Richie Simonetti, Michael Socorro, Aiden Lawless, Daniel Basini, Emma Barbelet, Katherine Devine, Peyton Gilleo, Antonia Cooper, Julia Freitas, and Mariella Mills.
Following the ceremony, the Sailors’ girls team earned a 7-0 victory, while the boys fell by the same score. Emma Barbelet led the girls with games of 143, 191, and 163 for a 497 series. Katherine Devine added a high game of 151 and a 397 series. On the boys’ side, Matteo Velardo rolled games of 150, 189, and 170 for a 509 series, while Richie Simonetti posted a high game of 202.
Hen Hud returned to the lanes the following day, Jan. 22, to face Walter Panas. The boys dropped another 7-0 decision, while the girls secured a 5-2 win. Kyle Cooper led the boys with games of 200, 186, and 170 for a 556 series, and Simonetti followed with games of 173, 164, and 148 for a 485 series. For the girls, Barbelet recorded a 486 series, while Devine had a high game of 177. Antonia Cooper added a 344 series, Peyton Gilleo posted a 343 series, and Whitney Goldman finished with a 342 series.
The Hen Hud boys now stand at 7-5 on the season, while the girls hold a 9-2 record. The Sailors return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 29, with both matches scheduled for 4 p.m. at Hudson Lanes and Games. Opponents have yet to be determined.
Skiing
Hen Hud’s ski team competed in a slalom race at Thunder Ridge Ski Area on Jan. 22. Rachel Budde earned first place in the girls’ division, while Fotini Schattman finished fifth and Mia Goodenow placed 10th.
The Sailors will return to Thunder Ridge for another slalom race on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 4:30 p.m., before heading to Mohawk Mountain Ski Area for a giant slalom race on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 4:30 p.m.
College Watch

Track & Field – Division I Demetrius Wells (Hen Hud Class of 2024) made his collegiate debut for Le Moyne College on Jan. 16 at the Utica Winter Opener. Wells placed 10th overall in the men’s long jump with a mark of 6.13m (20’1.5”). He also delivered a standout performance in the triple jump, setting a program record while earning first place with a distance of 13.82m (45 ‘4.25 “). Following his impressive debut, Wells was named Le Moyne Co-Athlete of the Week.
Track & Field – Division III Vermont State Castleton’s Karli Martin (Hen Hud Class of 2023) finished second in the weight throw at the Panther Invitational, hosted by Plymouth State University on Jan. 17, with a throw of 13.75m.
