Girls Soccer

Peekskill girls soccer closed out the 2025 regular season in style, earning two emphatic victories as they set their sights on the postseason.
The Red Devils traveled to Woodlands on Oct. 14 and came away with a 5-0 win. Sophomore Brianna Tuba continued her impressive scoring form, netting a hat trick for the second straight game. Kimberly Alfaro and Natalie Foster also found the back of the net for Peekskill.
On Oct. 20, Peekskill hosted Poughkeepsie in their final regular-season matchup and delivered another statement performance, cruising to a 7-0 victory. Kim Alfaro had two goals and an assist, while Valeria Otaalo added two assists of her own. Other scorers for Peekskill included Tuba, Dayana Sari, Jozelyn Zhinin, Shea Rekeda, and Heidy Lituma.

With that win, Peekskill wrapped up the 2025 campaign with a dominant 15–1 record and a league championship – marking one of the most successful girls soccer seasons in recent program history. Fans would have to look back to 1989 (see photo) to find a Peekskill team with similar success. That year, the Red Devils finished 13–1–3 and captured the League 3A title for the first time in school history. Led by Peekskill Hall of Famer Dana Bennett (Dapson), who recorded 20 goals and 10 assists, and Christine Greenan, who tallied 10 goals and 14 assists, the team featured seven players earning postseason honors under head coach Tom Carroll, who was named League 3A Coach of the Year.
This year’s squad has been equally prolific. The Red Devils have scored 84 goals in 16 matches, conceded just 11, and recorded nine shutouts – with their last goal allowed coming back on Sept. 26 in a 3–1 win over Putnam Valley. Leading the attack are Kim Alfaro (18 goals, 7 assists) and Valeria Otavalo (15 goals, 17 assists), who have been crucial to Peekskill’s offensive dominance.
For head coach Anthony Dicuio, now in his fourth season leading the program, the team’s preseason goal of a league title has been realized. Next up: postseason action. Peekskill’s playoff opponent, date, and time will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 21. With confidence and momentum on their side, the Red Devils will look to build on this remarkable season and avenge last year’s first-round loss to Mahopac.
Boys Soccer

On Oct. 14, Peekskill fell to Poughkeepsie on the road, 3-2. Erick Lojano and Jonathan Castillo found the net for the Red Devils, with Edvin Marcos recording an assist.
The Red Devils bounced back with a stronger showing in their next outing, earning a 2-2 draw at Carmel on Oct. 16. The Carmel Rams struck first 11 minutes into the opening half off a corner kick that was headed past goalkeeper Jonathan Aguilar. Carmel doubled its lead minutes later – again from a set piece – this time converting a deep free kick that found an unmarked player in the box.
Peekskill rallied after halftime. Maddox Lozada pulled one back in the second half, and goalkeeper-turned-outfield-player Jonathan Farez made the difference late, scoring a goal with under four minutes remaining to level the match. The game ended in a hard-fought 2–2 draw.
Peekskill then returned home for Senior Night and its final regular-season game on Oct. 17, falling 4–0 to Lakeland. Seniors Christian Fernando Medina, Jeremy Avesicha, Erick Lojano, Jordan Ruiz, Erick Quiche, Brandon Inga, and captains Alejandro Montano, Maddox Lozada, and Melvin Criollo were all honored for their contributions to the program.
The evening was an emotional one – especially for Criollo – whose appearance marked his first return to Torpy Field more than a month after a traumatic brain injury on Sept. 12 against Haldane cut his senior season short. When his name was announced in the starting lineup, he received a standing ovation from the crowd. As the Red Devils kicked off, they sent the ball out of bounds in a touching tribute, allowing Criollo to be subbed off immediately to applause. (Criollo is currently on the road to recovery. Read more about his story here.)
Peekskill finishes the regular season with a record of 4-8-3 and will return to action later this week. Details on their postseason opponent, time, and location are yet to be announced. Head Coach Jonathan Iasillo is set to be honored by Peekskill Athletics for reaching 100 career wins on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Peekskill High School at 6:45 p.m. All are welcome.
