After two straight losses, the Hen Hud football team rebounded on Oct. 10 with a decisive 46-19 home victory over Hastings – a win dedicated to the program’s Class of 2026 seniors.
The evening marked the final regular-season home game for 14 seniors and assistant coach Craig Solomon, who will retire at the end of the year after more than 30 years of service to the district. Knowing the stakes, Hen Hud made sure to put on a show – and they did just that.
Seniors honored before kickoff included Justin Parkes, Alex Pio, Michael Socorro, Ethan Walsh, Vinny Valdes, Aiden Lawless, Jack Hiltsley, Eric Selvaggi, Kenneth Mora, D’hadi Lovelace, Shawn O’Mara, Yamil Melendez, Dom Morocho and Alfred Roush.
On the field, Kane Wamack completed 7 of 12 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Parkes turned in a standout performance, rushing 16 times for 223 yards and three touchdowns, adding one reception for 14 yards and a receiving touchdown, and returning a punt 53 yards for another score. His explosive night earned him a nomination for Lohud’s Football Player of the Week for the second time this season (he finished 6th with 1.19% of the votes).
Billy Magliano added four carries for 21 yards and a touchdown, while Hunter Kennedy-Brown caught three passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, and also recorded a sack on defense. Girls Soccer

Hen Hud fell to 4-10-1 after a pair of narrow road losses. On Oct. 11, the Sailors lost to Ardsley, 4-3. Freshman Kinsley Steinhiser led the way with her first career hat trick, scoring three times off two assists from Skyler Selkin and one from Bridget Couch. Charlotte Gaspar made 10 saves in goal for the Sailors.
After totaling eight goals and two assists on the week, Steinhiser earned a nomination for Lohud Girls Soccer Player of the Week (Oct. 6-12), finishing second in the voting with 33.58% of the total.
Hen Hud returned to action on Oct. 15, falling 6-4 to Walter Panas in a thrilling, back-and-forth contest. After going 3-0 down, the Sailors mounted a spirited comeback. Yorgia Schattman opened the scoring for Hen Hud with a powerful free kick that the Panas keeper couldn’t handle. Less than a minute later, Steinhiser struck again to cut the deficit to one.
Panas responded with two more goals – one off a corner scramble and another long-range effort that seemed to seal the game. But Hen Hud refused to fold. With 12 minutes remaining, Steinhiser connected with Julianna Povella for a well-worked goal, then Couch fired in a left-footed strike from distance to make it 5-4. Hopes of a dramatic comeback ended moments later, however, as Panas scored once more off a corner to secure the 6-4 win.
Steinhiser now leads Hen Hud with 14 goals and seven assists on the season.
The Sailors will look to bounce back and avenge their earlier loss when they host Ardsley on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m for their final game of the regular season.
Boys Soccer

On Oct. 15, Hen Hud earned its first win in nearly a month, defeating Nanuet on the road, 2-1. John Dominguez opened the scoring late in the first half after a deflected shot found its way to him, and he calmly slotted it into the bottom-right corner of the net. Dominguez was greeted with hugs from his teammates – a visible sign of how much that goal meant to them, marking just their second in seven games.
Unfortunately, the smiles didn’t last long, as the Sailors conceded a goal less than 10 seconds before halftime.
With 17 minutes remaining and the score tied, frustration began to mount on both sides, culminating in a brief shoving match that resulted in yellow cards. Two minutes later, Nanuet faltered under pressure. After Dominguez slipped a clever pass through to Victor Garcia, Garcia was brought down by a slide tackle as he cut inside to shoot, earning Hen Hud a penalty.
Garcia stepped up to take it and did not disappoint, placing a low shot into the bottom-left corner with a composed, stuttered run-up. It was tense, but the Sailors held on to secure a 2-1 victory – their first since Sept. 16.
The following day, Oct. 16, Hen Hud dropped an away match to John Jay Cross River, 4-0.
