They say the right to vote is the most precious commodity a democratic republic can offer its citizens. Along with that priceless right comes a responsibility to cast a ballot that is rooted in being as well-informed about issues and candidates as possible.

Enter the Peekskill Herald Voter Guide to the November 2025 Peekskill Elections. In it you will find detailed answers to a series of questions that we believe you yourself might ask the nine candidates who seek to govern and represent the City of Peekskill.

We earnestly encourage you to pore over every one of these interviews in the interest of discharging your civic duty to the fullest by being an educated voter.

As Founding Father Samuel Adams said, “Let each citizen remember at the moment [of] offering [their] vote… that [they are] executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which [they are] accountable to [our] country.”

Peekskill residents will find a printed publication from Peekskill Herald in their mailboxes today, Oct. 21. The eight-page Voter Guide is a special print extension of our digital newspaper that was created as a public service. It is designed to inform citizens in detail about the candidates running for the offices of Mayor and Common Council in Peekskill and County Legislator in District 1. Knowing all about the candidates and issues is a way to encourage participation in the election process.

“In past years, the League of Women Voters produced printed guides to elections, but that hasn’t happened lately, so we decided to take on the project,” said Peekskill Herald Publisher Regina Clarkin. The local League of Women Voters is hosting a debate between Peekskill mayoral candidates Vivian McKenzie and Ramon Fernandez on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Central Firehouse on Main and Broad Streets.

The Herald‘s four-color voter guide features photos of the three Democratic newcomers and two Republican candidates along with the two candidates for the mayoral seat. The Democratic and Republican candidates for county legislator also are included.

The Herald reached out to candidates in early September, asking them to answer questions about issues facing the city and county. They were also asked to submit biographical information.

The answers from the candidates are in English in the printed version with QR codes linking to the Spanish language edition that is on our website under the category Government and Election Guide in the top drop-down menu.

Copies of the Peekskill Herald Election Guide also will be available Wednesday at these locations:  Peekskill Coffee House, Bean Runner, Benny’s Brown Bag, The Field Library, The Field Library Bookstore, Bruised Apple, Baisley’s Deli, The Central, Station Deli, Fuhgeddaboudit Deli, La Cabana, SavALot, CTown, Dunkin on Washington Street and Dunkin on Main and James Streets, Valley Brook Market, Sun River Health, Paramount Hudson Valley, Oley and Chuck’s Bar and Grill, Stop-n-Shop, CCCHostess at Charles Point.
