The life of Peekskill native John A. Cunningham, 75, who died earlier this summer, will be celebrated at the Holiday Inn & Suites, 2 John Walsh Blvd, Peekskill on Saturday, August 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. All friends and relatives are invited to attend and remember Cunningham.
Cunningham who lived in Topsfield, Massachusetts where he died on June 20, was instrumental in organizing his Peekskill High School 50th reunion for the class of 1966, working closely with the city’s historian. He will be remembered for his wit, love of Peekskill, the Hudson River Valley, and the Adirondack Mountains.
Born on April 20, 1948 to Thomas and Mary (Troyanovich) Cunningham in Peekskill, he graduated from Peekskill High School in 1966 and SUNY Cortland in 1970 with a BS in Education.
He counted himself lucky that he was an attendee at the original Woodstock music festival in August 1969 in Bethel, NY. He lived and worked for years in Lake Placid, including managing staff during the 1980 Winter Olympics there. Upon moving to the Boston area in 1985 John was a valued executive at Positions Incorporated for over 20 years until his retirement in 2009. Following his retirement, he worked part time and contributed greatly to the success of the Staples Copy Center in Danvers, Massachusetts. He was well known for exemplary customer service and strong work ethic.
John’s greatest joys were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by children Meghan D. Cunningham of Kihei, Hawaii and Dane (Carolynn) J. Cunningham of Bonita Springs, Florida and grandchildren Dahlia Katrine Tymoff and Ananias John and Rose Mary Cunningham.
He is survived by brothers Thomas (Susan) Cunningham of Delmar, NY and Michael (Kathleen) Cunningham of Cicero, NY, along with a niece and four nephews.
