The laughter of families and friends, the aroma of freshly grilled hamburgers and tables filled with shared dishes will once again become part of the Riverfront Green landscape this weekend. With the Hudson River serving as a backdrop and the park’s gazebo transformed into a gathering place, dozens of people will come together on June 14 for a day that will combine worship, music, fellowship and a feast in a peaceful setting open to the entire community.
Peekskill Presbyterian Church will hold one of its most cherished annual traditions this Sunday: the Church Picnic Family and Friends Worship Service, an event that will bring together congregation members, relatives, friends and residents interested in sharing a morning of spiritual reflection and fellowship outdoors.
Organizers said the gathering has become an annual tradition for church members and many local families. The event seeks to provide a space where faith, fellowship and a sense of community can come together in one place. “We have our Sunday Worship under the Gazebo at 11 a.m., for members and anyone interested in joining us are always welcome,” organizers said.

The worship service will feature “music and usually visiting musicians.” Organizers said that is an important part of the worship experience that will characterize the annual gathering. Once the service concludes, attendees will share a community picnic. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. As the afternoon unfolds, neighbors and visitors will have an opportunity to talk, enjoy food and strengthen community ties in a family-friendly atmosphere.
The event will follow a collaborative format in which participants will be invited to contribute food and beverages to share. “Everyone brings a side dish/desserts and drinks to share,” organizers said. Suggested contributions include green salads, potato salad, fruit salad, pasta salad, juice, soda, cakes, cookies, brownies, water and other dishes suitable for sharing with the group. In addition to food contributions, attendees are asked to bring their own chairs for comfort throughout the event.
The Church Picnic Family and Friends Worship Service typically draws strong participation, and organizers recommend reserving a spot in advance. To make donations or request additional information, interested individuals may contact at 914 500-3803, 914 330-6558 or 914 245-8657.
