A walk under the light of the full moon will serve as the occasion for Depew Park to remain open after sunset. It will take place for one night only: Friday, May 1. The schedule is part of a special activity that will bring residents together at 8 p.m. at the recreational space located at 1 Robin Dr. This is the first edition of the Full Moon Walk, organized by the Peekskill Conservation Advisory Council.

The group will gather at the gazebo, adjacent to Lake Mitchell. From there, the route through the park trails will begin. The program, expected to last approximately two hours, will operate under controlled access. In March, the city authorized the event under a set schedule extending until 10 p.m., with guided movement and a return to the starting point.
During the walk, participants will move through internal park trails that include wooded areas and sections known as the red trail. The walk will remain group-based throughout. Community response has been positive, particularly among those who are regular walking enthusiasts.
However, the central focus of the activity will be the explanation of lunar cycles, as the moon will be in its phase of plenilunium that night. In addition, weather conditions are expected to be partly cloudy, which may allow intermittent visibility of the moon. The route will also include an update on Lake Mitchell, a water feature that forms part of the park’s natural system and serves as a reference point for local environmental topics.
The walk will include brief pauses for guided explanations. Organizers recommend that participants wear closed and comfortable footwear, preferably suitable for dirt paths or uneven terrain. Layered clothing is also advised, with light but warm garments for nighttime conditions, as temperatures may drop.
In addition, visitors are encouraged to bring a flashlight or portable light, as the route takes place under low natural illumination. It is also recommended to bring water and avoid unnecessary items that may hinder mobility during the course of the walk.
