Uniforms and equipment are ready. The flag football program of the Peekskill Parks & Recreation Department will begin on May 4. Sessions will take place at Depew Park, located at 1 Robin Dr. There, practices will be held during the week at scheduled times assigned to each team, while games will take place on Saturdays. The season will run through June 27.
Registration went through an initial online cycle. However, digital platforms indicate that a limited number of spots remain available. Fees for participation in the program are $80 for residents and $105 for non-residents. Activities are divided by grade level: first through sixth grade meets on Monday afternoons and Saturday late mornings; seventh through twelfth grade meets on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday early afternoons.

Each session will last approximately 90 minutes. The training format combines technical drills focused on the development of athletic skills, including throwing and catching with accuracy, running routes, pulling flags on defense, and working on movements such as directional changes, short bursts of speed, and coordination using cones or ladders. These sequences will be guided by coaches to help players understand positioning, improve execution, and gradually integrate into team play.
The instructors participating in the flag football sessions are Alphonso “Fonz” Gourdine and Danell Turner Jr., collaborators with the Peekskill Parks & Recreation Department. In addition to physical preparation, they will be responsible for teaching participants teamwork skills and the principles of healthy competition.
Within the same season, the Peekskill Parks & Recreation Department maintains other programs with open or flexible registration. Soccer, tennis, and swimming continue to accept participants while space is available. Registration for summer programs is also now open.
