Peekskill will close vehicular traffic and open its streets to bicycles. Every Sunday, from May through November, the roadways within and around Depew Park, located at 1 Robin Dr., will be removed from access by motor vehicles to implement the Sunday bicycle program. The schedule is fixed. Closures will take place from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. This activity will be repeated week after week for six months.
The initiative, known as Bicycle Sundays, is managed by the City of Peekskill Recreation Department. The program aims to promote a roadway network available for bicycles, walking, and non-motorized recreational use. Participation is free and open to the public. No prior registration is required. Access will remain open under municipal regulation.

The cycling plan is part of actions approved by local authorities to expand community use of the park. The road closures were approved during a Common Council meeting in January 2026. The document states that the program will promote a safe and healthy space for bicycle users and pedestrians.
Bicycle Sundays will begin on May 3 and will continue through Nov. 1. The closures will include specific entry points: the park entrance from Hudson Avenue, east of the tennis courts (identified as Pomeroy Street), Fremont Street at its intersection with Robin Drive, Walnut Street at its intersection with Robin Drive, Robin Drive east of Depew Court, and Bay Street near the access to Robin Drive and the Recreation Administration Building.
During the scheduled hours of the activity, vehicles will not be allowed to circulate inside the park. Vehicular access will be redirected. Parking will be concentrated in the pool area. Entry will be through Union Avenue.
With the arrival of the warm season and the activation of programs such as Bicycle Sundays in Depew Park, additional initiatives related to bicycle use will also expand in the city. At the local level, community organizations such as Peekskill Elks Lodge, along with neighborhood groups and private services, will activate basic cyclist support, including mechanical adjustments, light maintenance, and equipment preparation.
In past years, the Peekskill Police Department has also participated in community activities related to bicycle safety, including bike inspection events, preventive guidance, and helmet distribution.
