Girls Soccer
Peekskill girls soccer continued their dominant run over the past week, scoring 20 goals and conceding none across three games – further cementing the 2025 season as one of the program’s strongest in recent memory.
On Oct. 1, the Red Devils hosted Roosevelt, and cruised to a 7-0 victory. Sophomore forward Kimberly Alfaro scored twice and provided an assist, while captains Valeria Otavalo and Jackelin Alfaro both found the back of the net. Brianna Tuba, Heidi Lituma, and Anai Juarez also added goals in the win.
Just two days later, on Oct. 3, Peekskill nearly matched that scoreline, defeating Alexander Hamilton 6-0 on the road. Otavalo led the way again with two goals and an assist, while sophomore Jozelyn Zhinin tallied a goal and an assist of her own. Kim Alfaro, Tuba, and Shantal Naulaguari also scored. Alfaro currently leads the team with 15 goals on the season.
The Red Devils wrapped up their dominant stretch on Oct. 6 with another 7-0 win, this time at home against Mount Vernon. Jackelin Alfaro recorded a hat trick, Natalie Foster scored once and assisted twice, and Zhinin contributed a goal and an assist. Naulaguari and Shea Rekada each added a goal, while Otavalo notched two assists. Goalkeeper Victoria Jovel earned her sixth clean sheet of the season.
The match took place on Senior Night, where Peekskill honored captains Jackelin Alfaro and Natalie Foster. Both players were celebrated by family and friends during a heartfelt halftime ceremony.
Following her standout performance, captain Valeria Otavalo was nominated for Lohud’s Girls Soccer Player of the Week. Fans can vote in the online poll through Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m.
Now boasting an impressive 12-1 record, Peekskill will travel to Poughkeepsie for their next matchup on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 4:30 p.m.
Boys Soccer

On Oct. 1, Peekskill narrowly beat Poughkeepsie 1-0, thanks to a late goal from Eddy Farfan, who broke the deadlock in dramatic fashion with just four minutes remaining. Farfan, scoring his third goal of the season, connected on a Maddox Lozada free kick to seal the Red Devils’ victory. Goalkeeper Jonathan Farez made four saves, earning his second clean sheet of the year.
Two days later, on Oct. 3, Peekskill endured a tougher outing, falling 2-1 to visiting Carmel. The Carmel Rams opened the scoring 13 minutes into the first half off a throw-in routine that caught the Peekskill defense off guard, allowing Casey Maggiolo to finish from close range. Carmel held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Lozada pulled the Red Devils level in the 48th minute after getting on the end of a long pass from Alejandro Montano. But Peekskill’s hopes were dashed with 13 minutes left, when Carmel converted a cross into the box past an exposed Farez. With 20 seconds remaining, Peekskill had one final chance from a free kick just outside the box, but Lozada’s header drifted wide. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Carmel.
The Red Devils suffered another setback on Oct. 6, losing 4-2 on the road to Lakeland. The hosts went 1-0 up in the first half before chaos unfolded after the break. Lakeland struck twice in quick succession early in the second half to extend their lead to 3-0. Peekskill responded five minutes later when Erick Lojano found the back of the net. Lakeland added a fourth goal shortly after, but Lojano struck again late in the game, capitalizing on a clever through ball from Lozada. The match ended 4-2 in favor of Lakeland.
Now 3-5-2 on the season, Peekskill will hit the road for matchups against Mahopac on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m., and Brewster on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4:45 p.m. If Peekskill wins either game, Jonathan Iasillo will reach 100 wins as head coach of the varsity program.
Football

At the start of the 2025 season, football head coach Demetric Gardner told the Peekskill Herald that his goal was for the Red Devils to be “disciplined, physical, competitive, and intelligent” in everything they do. “We’ve got the talent,” Gardner said. “Now it’s about putting the pieces together and playing as one.” If the team’s recent results are any indication, Peekskill is doing just that.
On Oct. 3, Peekskill improved to 4-1 with a hard-fought 22-21 victory over Tappan Zee. Running back Craig Jacobs powered the offense with 18 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns, and contributed one of the game’s biggest plays – a 99-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Joseph Walker added 67 rushing yards on four carries and came up with an interception on defense. Quarterback Christian Preston completed 5 of 7 passes for 61 yards, ran for 13 yards on three carries, and also recorded an interception on defense. Jamier Chavis caught two passes for 31 yards, while Darius Smythe contributed 10 rushing yards and 20 receiving yards. On defense, linebacker Andrew Sharrock forced a fumble.
Jacobs’ performance once again earned him recognition, as the junior was nominated for Lohud’s Football Player of the Week (Oct. 3-4) – his second nomination this season. Fans can vote in the online poll through Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m.
