Spring Track

Umaru Conteh wrapped up a standout debut season as a high jumper with the Peekskill varsity track team at the 2025 New York State Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held June 13-14 at Middletown High School.
After clearing 6’5” (1.96 meters) at the state qualifiers, Conteh was unable to match that height at states, finishing with a leap of 6’1” (1.85 meters) and tying for 18th place alongside eight other competitors.
Over the course of the season, Conteh was crowned league and county champion, finished second at the Class B championships, and claimed first place in the Class B state qualifiers.
Year in Review
The 2024-25 school year was a memorable one for Peekskill Athletics, filled with historic postseason runs, breakout performances, and emotional season finales.
Fall: Peekskill’s boys soccer team made a historic push to the Class AA semifinals – their first final four appearance in over 40 years. Despite a strong effort, the Red Devils fell short to Fox Lane, 3-1, finishing the season with a record of 14-3-2. Senior forward Umaru Conteh led the way with 25 goals and earned All-League, All-Section, and All-State honors. The team was coached by Jonathan Iasillo, with assistant coach Jaime Guevara.
The varsity girls swim team, coached by Nikki Brady, also enjoyed a standout season. The team finished 9-1 in conference play and took second place at their championship meet. Five swimmers earned All-League honors: Lily Counts, Paula Pauta, Katherine Alvarez, Olivia Kravitz, Miranda Berger.
In cross country, senior Jermaine Carter broke the school’s 5,000-meter record twice, first at 17:44.30 then 16:42.10 at the Section 1 Coaches Invitational at Woodlands High School in October. The previous record was set by Tony Monchinski in 2022 at 17:49.80.
Winter: 2023-24 Class AA champions Peekskill delivered another strong season this past winter. The Red Devils finished 14-6 and captured their second consecutive league title. No. 4 seeded Peekskill made it to the semifinals of sectionals, where they were eliminated by top-seeded Tappan Zee, 45-29. Senior captains Isaiah Crawford and Jaden Chavis, both instrumental to the team’s success, were profiled by the Herald in May.
Spring: Peekskill’s varsity flag football team battled through an exciting season, finishing with an 8-5-3 record. The Red Devils, led by head coach Tyrone Searight, were contenders for their first league title but fell just short after a late-season injury to star player Jealina Searight. The season ended with a 15-0 first-round sectional loss to Somers.
