Flag Football

Hen Hud capped off its regular season in emphatic fashion on May 9, beating Woodlands 30-0 on the road. With the Sailors in red-hot form and heavily favored to win, Coach Craig Solomon opted to rotate his squad for the matchup.
Christina Barry completed three out of six passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, while Nicole Facciolo completed two out of four passes for 16 yards and a touchdown. Facciolo also rushed 101 yards and had two touchdowns. Aisha Chiriboga chipped in with an eight-yard rushing touchdown. Rachel Budde hauled in four receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns. On the defensive side, Imani Yusuf recorded two interceptions.
Hen Hud finished the regular season with a 12-3 record and first place in Class C. As the No.1 seed, the Sailors earned a bye and advance directly to the sectional semifinals on Wednesday, May 21. They’ll host that game and face the winner of Westlake/Briarcliff (No.4) and Byram Hills (No.5), scheduled for Saturday, May 17.
Boys Lacrosse

Hen Hud’s varsity boys lacrosse team finally completed its long-delayed game against Briarcliff on Monday, May 12. Originally played on May 3, the game was halted due to lightning and rescheduled for May 8, only to be postponed again. The Sailors resumed play trailing 6-1 and ultimately lost to Briarcliff, 13-4.
Despite the loss, the evening held special meaning for Hen Hud, as the team honored its seniors for their contributions to the program. The graduating players recognized on Senior Night included: Mason Dietz, Liam Moore, James McManus, Dean Pastolove, Joey Abboud, Aidan Mazzoni, Alexander Soltowski, Ryan Sarson, and Brendan Rosario.
Hen Hud rebounded the following day, Tuesday, May 13, with a 12-10 home win over Putnam Valley. The Sailors were led by a standout performance from Drew Hiltsley, who scored five goals, and Dean Pastolove, who added four. James McManus also contributed a goal and four assists, while goalkeeper Aidan Mazzoni had 26 saves in goal.
The team closed out the week with a thrilling overtime victory over Mahopac on Thursday, May 15. Mahopac led for a majority of the game, but with nine minutes remaining in regulation, Hiltsley brought the Sailors within one at 6-5. In the final three minutes, Ethan Walsh tied the game at 6-6 off a pass from McManus. The game went into overtime, but the extra period was short lived. Two minutes in, Mazzoni made a crucial save that sparked a fast counterattack from the Sailors. The ball eventually found Liam Moore, who delivered a clutch assist to Hiltsley for his fourth goal of the game – sealing a dramatic 7-6 victory for Hen Hud. Mazzoni finished the game with 20 saves.
Now at 7-8 for the season, Hen Hud will travel to Brewster for their final game of the regular season on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. Section 1 postseason brackets are expected to be released within the next few days.
Girls Lacrosse

On May 9, Hen Hud hosted Horace Greeley but fell 15-6. Paige Montgomery scored three goals in the loss, surpassing 200 career goals in the process. She also tallied two assists. Kayla McCarthy chipped in with two goals and an assist. For Horace Greeley, Grace Richards had a big game with nine goals.
Hen Hud bounced back on Monday, May 12, with an 11-9 win over Albertus Magnus, led by a standout performance from Gianna Gagliardi. During gameplay, Gagliardi scored five goals and was crucial in helping the Sailors edge out Albertus Magnus in a tightly contested matchup. In addition, Montgomery added a hat trick and McCarthy scored twice. Carleigh Ortiz contributed a goal and made her presence known on defense, forcing five turnovers.
“This was a huge win for our girls who have fought through a tough season against the strongest teams in Section 1,” said head coach Robert Porter.
The Sailors ended the week with a narrow 15-14 victory over Somers on Wednesday, May 14. McCarthy powered the offense with six goals, Ortiz followed with five, and Montgomery added two goals and two assists. In net, Mia Detz had five saves. To celebrate the hard-earned win, Coach Porter revealed he treated his players to King Kone after the match.
For their next games, Hen Hud (5-9) will face Ursuline on Saturday, May 17, at The Ursuline School in New Rochelle at 10 a.m, followed by a trip to Mahopac High School on Monday, May 19, for their final game of the regular season at 6 p.m. Postseason action is set to begin next week.
In other lacrosse news, Carleigh Ortiz and Oona McManus earned spots on the Hudson Valley Girls Lacrosse team after tryouts earlier this month. The girls will play alongside several other girls from all parts of New York at the USA Lacrosse National Tournament on May 24-25, 2025, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Boyden Fields
Baseball
Hen Hud Baseball continued to struggle this past week. They started off with a cancellation due to rain on May 9 against Walter Panas.
The Sailors returned to action on May 10, splitting a double header – dropping the first game to Westlake, 4-3, before bouncing back with a 6-1 win over Rye Neck.
On Monday, May 12, the Sailors traveled to face Walter Panas in a double header, falling 1-0 and 4-0.
The following day, Tuesday, May 13, Hen Hud concluded the regular season with a loss to Mahopac, 10-1.
Hen Hud finishes with a 5-15 overall record and enters the postseason as the No.15 seed in Class A. The boys will host No.18 Sleepy Hollow in a pivotal outbracket (play-in) game on Saturday, May 17. Game time has not yet been announced. The winner will advance to face No. 2 Rye on Monday, May 19.
Softball
Hen Hud is surging at the right time, riding a six-game unbeaten streak heading into the final stretch of the regular season. The girls have not lost since April 29.
A scheduled game against Ardsley on May 9 was postponed due to rain.
On Monday, May 12, Hen Hud picked up a commanding 18-4 win over Walter Panas. Janae Walker powered the Sailors, going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Emma Johannsen added three RBI of her own, while Bella Booth contributed a double and a RBI. Emma Barbelet also had a strong showing at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Lillian Tomlinson finished 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI, and Jasmyne Kessler went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Hen Hud stayed hot on Tuesday, May 13, earning a 9-2 home victory over Sleepy Hollow. Barbelet tossed a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing just two earned runs to earn the win. She also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI. Booth went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Kessler was 1-for-2 with a triple and a RBI, Johannsen was 1-for-3 with a RBI, and Tomlinson chipped in with a hit and a RBI.
The Sailors capped off the week with a 11-0 shutout victory over Edgemont on Thursday, May 15. Barbelet was dominant once again, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings. At the plate, she added a hit and two RBI. Angelina Carbone led the offense, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI. Walker and Johannsen each added two hits, with Walker adding a RBI. McKenna Silverman delivered a triple and drove in three runs, while Stella Krebser finished 2-for-2 with a double.
Up next, Hen Hud (13-4) will host John Jay Cross River on Friday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m., followed by an away game at Ardsley on Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. This game will be their last of the regular season. Postseason action is set to begin next week.
Spring Track
From May 8-10, several Hen Hud athletes competed at the Glenn D. Loucks Games at White Plains High School, posting impressive performances.
On the boys side, Victor Delgado finished 21st in the 3,200-meter run, breaking a school record with a time of 9:16.43. His mark automatically qualifies him for the state meet in June, says head coach Marcia Bailey.
For the girls, Chloe Howard finished fifth in the 1,600-meter race walk at 8:33.10. Sophia Savatgy placed ninth in the 200-meter dash, setting a new school record at 25.60. Meanwhile, the rest of the Hen Hud track and field team competed at the Rasbeck Relays at Irvington High School over the weekend. The boys’ team finished first in Class B, while the girls took second.
For the girls, in Class B, Alexandra Pappas finished second in the 3,000-meter race at 12:33.95, Maida Dapcevic placed second in the javelin throw at 20.98 meters, and Rachel Anderson placed second in pole vault at 1.83 meters.
For the boys, in Class B, Vivek Sekhri won the 3,200-meter race at 10:21.39, Daniel Basini placed third in the discus throw at 30.40 meters, and Perry Quaye won the high jump clearing 1.83 meters and placed second in the triple jump at 11.33 meters. Sebastian Willkehr won the javelin throw at 28.73 meters
Looking ahead, Hen Hud will host Day 1 of the 2025 Westchester County Championships on Friday, May 16, with several Sailors expected to compete. The team will then head to Yorktown High School for Day 2 on Saturday, May 17.
Golf
Hen Hud Golf capped off a busy final week of the season with four matches in four days.
On Monday, May 12, the Sailors lost to Haldane at Highlands Country Club, 238-258. Andy McNamee and Jacob Brand each shot 48.
The following day, Tuesday, May 13, Hen Hud fell in a tri-match to Lakeland/Panas and Ossining. Final scores were: Lakeland/Panas – 211, Ossining – 246, and Hen Hud – 271. McNamee again led the Sailors with a 48.
Then, on Wednesday, May 14, Hen Hud faced Sleepy Hollow at Sleepy Hollow Country Club. The Sailors shot a team score of 253. Sleepy Hollow was unable to score due to two golfiers being unable to finish the match, according to head coach Derek Kisslinger. McNamee shot a career and season best 46, while Brand and Ryder Boston each carded a 48.
The Sailors finished the week and wrapped up their season with a 231-251 loss to Lakeland/Panas on Thursday, May 15. Brand (44) and Boston (46) had career and season bests.
Boys Tennis

On Saturday, May 10, Ezra Smith and Nick Gatto represented Hen Hud in the doubles sectional tournament. In their opening match, the Sailors defeated Carmel’s Daniel Keropian and Iker Munoz Sanchez, 7-5 and 6-3. They advanced to face Briarcliff’s Charles Martin and Eli Snider, but fell 6-0 and 6-0.
Hen Hud (No. 8) will face top-seeded Byram Hills in the quarterfinals of the Division II team sectionals on Friday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m. The match will be played on the road.
College Watch
Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: On Wednesday, May 14, Kira Varada (Hen Hud Class of 2021) was recognized as one of the Iona University’s most outstanding senior athletes, receiving the 2025 Joseph E. O’Connell Award at the Iona Athletics Annual Senior Awards Banquet. Varada played a huge role in Iona’s historic campaign this season, helping lead the team to its first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) playoff victory and an appearance in the championship final for the first time in program history.

According Iona Athletics, Varada has accomplished the following during her time with the women’s lacrosse program:
- One of the all-time greatest women’s lacrosse players in Iona history.
- Three-time MAAC Midfielder of the Year (2023-2025).
- Four-time All-MAAC honoree: All-Rookie and Second Team (2022), First Team (2023-2025).
- MAAC Rookie of the Year in 2022 and Preseason Player of the Year in 2025.
- Led team to back-to-back MAAC Championship appearances and the program’s first-ever playoff win in 2025.
- Led Iona in goals from sophomore through senior year; second in goals as a freshman.
- Set Iona’s single-season and career draw control records; second player in program history with over 200.
- Holds Iona’s career records for caused turnovers (first with 150+) and man-up goals.
- Ranks No. 2 all-time at Iona in goals (150+), points (200+), and shots; No. 3 in ground balls.
- Three-time MAAC All-Academic Team and four-time MAAC Academic Honor Roll selection.
