Boys Lacrosse
On April 26, Hen Hud suffered their fifth loss of the season, falling to Fox Lane, 8-5. Hen Hud’s James McManus and Drew Hiltsley both scored two goals in this game.
Bouncing back on Tuesday, April 29, Hen Hud beat Cardinal Hayes at home, 10-7. McManus led the charge with five goals, followed by Mason Dietz with three and Hiltsley with two. Dean Pastolve had a team-high three assists. Aidan Mazzoni came up big in net with 20 saves.
The Sailors capped off the week with an 11-7 defeat to Lakeland/Panas. In this game, McManus and Hiltsley lead the team in goals with three. On the opposing side, Orban Rader, Paul Fitzgerald, and Jessie DiPaola, all notched up hat tricks (three goals).
Up next, Hen Hud (4-6) will host Briarcliff on Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m., followed by an away game against Pleasantville on Monday, May 5, at 5 p.m. The boys end the week traveling to Ossining High School to face Ossining-Peekskill on Wednesday, May 7, at 5 p.m.
Girls Lacrosse
Hen Hud’s varsity girls lacrosse team faced a tough week of competition.
The girls started off hot with a strong 16-4 away victory over Putnam Valley on April 25. Paige Montgomery, Carleigh Ortiz, and Gianna Gagliardi, each recorded four goals for the Sailors.
However, Hen Hud was unable to build off this win, losing 22-13 to Yorktown the following day (April 26). Kayla McCarthy delivered a standout performance with six goals, while Gagliardi contributed four.
On Thursday, May 1, Hen Hud fell to John Jay Cross River at home, 16-6. McCarthy had a team-high four goals in this game.
Now at 3-7 for the season, Hen Hud returns to action on Saturday, May 3, against Horace Greeley at home at 5 p.m. The girls will also host Greenwich on Tuesday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m., followed by an away game against Mahopac on Thursday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m.
Flag Football

Craig Solomon’s varsity flag football team is currently on a four game winning streak after picking up two dominant victories this week.
On Monday, April 28, Hen Hud took down Walter Panas at home, 39-6. Lucy Mager had a strong offensive performance, completing 17 out of 23 passes for 207 yards and five touchdowns. She also had 48 rushing yards and contributed a touchdown. On defense, Mager had an interception and three tackles.
Kaitlyn Raguso had six receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns, while Maria Ribeiro had four receptions for 29 yards and two extra point conversions. Kate Stratton had three catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns, while also chipping in with an interception. Jonna Rivera had three catches for 29 yards and contributed an interception. Sasha Lemus Villeda had a big game with one reception for 40 yards and a touchdown. She also led the team with six tackles, three for loss and three sacks.
The very next day (April 29), Hen Hud won 39-6 again at home – this time over Woodlands. The team was led by Mager, who rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns, while completing four out of six passes for 58 yards. She also contributed three touchdowns.
Ribeiro added 28 rushing yards and two extra points, while Christina Barry completed three out of five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. On the receiving end, Raguso caught three receptions for 36 yards and two touchdowns, Rachel Budde had two receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown, and Sofia Andrade had one reception for 22 yards and a touchdown.
After putting in impressive back-to-back performances, Mager was named Con Edison Athlete of the Week by Lohud.
On Friday, May 2, Hen Hud beat Hudson River (Hastings, Clark Academy, Greenburgh Academy) in dominant fashion, 44-6. The evening also marked Senior Night, as the Sailors celebrated their graduating players: Kaitlyn Raguso, Carmen Marino, Imani Yusuf, Mariana Garcia Ramierez, Sofia Andrade, Oakley Gougelmann, Lucy Mager, and Marin Quigley. Sophomore Maria Ribeiro was sidelined in this game due to a minor ankle injury, but she still made her presence known – this time on commentary. Hear her cover this game here.
Hen Hud, now 9-3, sits in second place in Class C behind Ardsley. For their next game, Hen Hud will host Westlake-Briarcliff on Monday, May 5, at 5 p.m. A big showdown between No. 2 Hen Hud and No. 1 Ardsley is set to take place on Thursday, May 8, on the road at 4:30 p.m.
Spring Track

Track standouts Victor Delgado and Chloe Howard set new school records while representing Hen Hud at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia last weekend. In the 3,000-meter race, Delgado came in 19th out of 21 athletes in 8:43.92. In the 5,000-meter race walk, Howard came in ninth out of 13 athletes in 29:17.80.
Meanwhile, Hen Hud’s boys and girls track teams competed at two separate meets this past weekend. The boys participated in the Mamaroneck Relays and the girls competed at the Croton Relays. For the boys, Daniel Basini placed second (95’07”), Yamil Melendez placed third (92’00”) in the discus throw. Perry Quaye, Hunter Kennedy-Brown, and Nasir Emery, were all tied in the high jump with a jump of 5 ’06”. In the boys long jump, Emery placed third (17’02”).
The team of Matthew Sullivan, Kenny Mora, Ramy Lopez, and Joshua Weinstein won the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay in 4:01.57. The team of Emery, Quaye, Salpreme Taylor, and Theodore Tieche finished second in the 4×100-meter relay in 46.50, and Mora, Weinstein, Vivek Sekhri, Jackson Morley came in second in the 4×400-meter relay in 3:54.15.
For the girls, at the Yorktown Relays, Shayla Boyd came in third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:21.98, Lexi Corcoran finished third in the 1,600-meter race walk in 9:40.50, and Isabelle Carvalho finished third in the 1,600-meter run in 6:05.28. Monica Rocha placed third in the discus throw at 83’04”, while Mia Goodenow placed third in the shot put at 28’4.50”.
The team of Carvalho, Abigail Mazzoni, Elyse Smith, and Sophia Savatgy won the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay in 4:43.81. Smith, Savatgy, Nisaa Emery, and Michelle Ikokwu won the 4×100-meter relay in 51.42, and Mazzoni, Kelly Krupa, Raine Parker, Alexandra Pappas won the 4×800-meter relay in 11:33.17.
On Wednesday, April 30, Hen Hud hosted a league meet against Ardsley, Sleepy Hollow, and Peekskill.
For the girls, Howard won the 1,500-meter race walk in 7:56.65, Savatgy won the 100-meter hurdles (12.52) and Emery placed second (13.01), Savatgy also won the 200 meter hurdles (25.72) and Smith came in third (28.40), Mazzoni placed second in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.67 and Smith came in third in 1:09.32. Carvalho won the 800-meter run (2:37.60) and Mazzoni came in second (2:44.03). Carvalho also won the 1,500-meter run in 5:16.83, while Pappas came in second in the 3,000-meter run in 13:12.08. Pappas won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:49.74. Elizabeth Apienti took first place in shot put at 28’5.50”.
For the boys, Mora finished third in the 400-meter dash in 54.28, Delgado won the 800-meter run in 2:03.25, the 1,600-meter run in 4:36.17, and the 3,200-meter run in 10:33.55. Birotte took first place in the 110-meter hurdles (17.33) and 400-meter hurdles (1:02.05). William McKinley shared first place in the high jump at 4’11.75” and placed third in the pentathlon at 1872 . Vincent Valdes Cabada placed second in the long jump at 20’2.75”.

Up next, Hen Hud will compete at the Somers Invitational this weekend (Friday and Saturday) at Somers High School. Next week, on Thursday and Friday (May 8-9), several individuals will represent Hen Hud at the Glenn D. Loucks Games in White Plains High School.
Baseball
Five games over seven days – Hen Hud Baseball battled through a busy schedule this week.
The action began on April 25, with Hen Hud beating Croton-Harmon on the road, 11-5. Hen Hud’s AJ Rambin had a solid game at the mound. A scheduled game against Mahopac was rained out on Saturday, April 26.
Croton-Harmon got revenge on the Sailors on April 28, beating the Sailors, 22-9. Croton’s Andrew Kim had a big game pitching 5.2 innings with no earned runs and four strikeouts. Kim also went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
The following day (April 29), Hen Hud responded with a 4-3 walk off victory over Irvington.
The Sailors then hosted Arlington on April 30 but fell 12-0. Prior to the game, Hen Hud honored its senior players, including Andrew Arellano, Shane Hayes, Connor Leach, and Andrew Gabari.
Hen Hud ended the week on a high note, securing a 8-7 victory over Pleasantville on May 1. Gabe Negron had a walk off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Now holding a 4-11 record, Hen Hud returns to action on Monday, May 5, against Westlake at home at 4:30 p.m., followed by a home against Mahopac on Tuesday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. The boys end the week with a home game against Rye Neck on Thursday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m.
Softball
On Monday, April 28, Hen Hud lost to Somers, 9-3. Hen Hud’s Kiely Morley, Janae Walker, and Angelina Carbone each contributed two hits, while Walker added an RBI. On the mound, Emma Barbelet had seven strikeouts and allowed no earned runs. However, Hen Hud committed six errors which ultimately cost them the game.
Things did not improve on Tuesday, April 29, with Hen Hud losing 8-2 to Ardsley at home. Bella Booth had two hits at the plate, while Morley, Carbone, Emma Johannsen, Lillian Thomas, each added a hit. Barbelet pitched a complete game for Hen Hud, with two strikeouts, one walk, and eight hits and five earned runs allowed.
On Thursday, May 1, Hen Hud picked up a strong home victory over Carmel, 6-3. Barbelet went the full seven innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits. Walker went 2-for-2 with a RBI, Carbone went 1-for-3 with two RBI, Johannsen went 1-for-2 with two RBi, and Booth went 1-for-3 with a RBI.
For their next games, Hen Hud (8-4) is set to play Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, May 3, on the road at 4 p.m., followed by a home game against Edgemont on Wednesday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m. The girls will also host Pawling on Thursday, May 8, at 4:45 p.m.
Golf
Hen Hud’s varsity golf team had a rough week, losing three matches.
On Monday, April 28, Hen Hud lost to Putnam Valley, 297-237. Senior Andy McNamee had the team’s low score with a 48. The team then fell to Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday, April 29, 285-264. In this match, McNamee tied his season and career low of 47. Finally, the Sailors came up short against Newburgh Free Academy on Thursday, May 1, 280-210. Top scorers were Jacob Brand with a 52, Ryder Boston with a 53, and McNamee with a 54.
Up next, the Sailors will play Lakeland/Panas twice on Monday, May 5, at 4 p.m., and Tuesday, May 6, at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at Hollow Brook Golf Course.
Other varsity results
Boys Tennis (10-3): Hen Hud lost to Lakeland 4-3 and 4-3 in a double header on April 30. Hen Hud beat Mahopac 7-0 and 7-0 in a double header on May 2.
Special Olympics Recognition

Hendrick Hudson Athletic Director Thomas Baker, who also serves as Section One’s Chairperson for Unified Sports, was honored by the Special Olympics organization on Sunday, April 27, at West Point for his contributions to Unified Sports. He was presented with a Going for the Unified Gold Award by Special Olympics’ New York Mid-State Regional Director Ellen Pikula.
“My role as Chairperson for Unified Sports has provided me with one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Baker said in a press release. “In six years, Unified Sports has grown tremendously in Section One. We started with six schools in Spring 2019, and now we have 23 playing basketball this spring. We grow each year,” he added.

College Corner

Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: Fiona McGovern (Hen Hud Class of 2021) had four goals and three assists in St. Bonaventure’s 17-7 win over George Washington University on April 26.
On Thursday, May 1, McGovern was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team. According to St. Bonaventure Athletics, this is the second time McGovern earned All-Academic honors. A health science major, McGovern has been a key contributor to the team while maintaining a 4.0 cumulative GPA.That same day, the Bonnies were knocked out of the Atlantic 10 tournament by the University of Richmond, 11-8. In this game, McGovern picked up an assist, setting a new program record for most single-season assists with 40.
McGovern concludes her collegiate career at St. Bonaventure with 217 career points (second in program history), 125 career goals (fifth), and 92 career assists (third).
Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: Iona University women’s lacrosse team is making program history, thanks in large part to senior Kira Varada (Hen Hud Class of 2021).
On April 27, Iona University women’s lacrosse team earned its first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) playoff victory, defeating Rider University 15-7. Varada led the charge, posting a game-high seven points with five goals and two assists. She also recorded seven draw controls, six ground balls, and six caused turnovers.
Continuing their historic run, Iona beat Mount St. Mary’s University 11-10 on May 2, securing a spot in the MAAC Championship game for the first time in program history. Virada once again delivered a strong performance with five goals and one assist.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: This week, Eastern Michigan’s Maddie Porter was named Mid-American Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. According to EMU Athletics, Porter finished the regular season with a school-record 170 saves, while stopping 49.4 percent of the shots she faced and allowing 11.06 goals per game.
On Thursday May 1, the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team fell to the University of Akron, 16-4, in the semifinals of the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament. Porter tailed nine saves in the loss, bringing her total to a school-record 179. Porter’s total is a 47-save improvement over her then-record of 132 recorded last year as freshman.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division II: Jordan Porter (Hen Hud Class of 2022) had two goals for Missouri Western Lacrosse in their 11-8 win over Lewis University on April 25. This win helped Missouri Western punch their ticket to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) tournament.
The following week, Porter was selected as an All-GLVC honorable mention. Porter currently has 21 goals and 10 assists on the season.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division II: University of Mount Olive’s Caroline Clark (Hen Hud Class of 2023) had three goals, one assist, three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and one ground ball in her team’s 18-14 victory over Belmont Abbey College. The win secured Mount Olive’s fifth-straight Conference Carolinas Championship.
Softball – Division III: Kyra Johnsen (Hen Hud Class of 2023) was awarded the Coaches Award for Softball during the Sarah Lawrence annual athletic banquet on April 25.
Men’s Lacrosse – Division III: Chris Connolly (Hen Hud Class of 2021) and 13 other seniors on the Union College men’s lacrosse team finished their time as Chargers on April 26. According to Union College Athletics, Connolly and his class were a part of three NCAA Tournaments, including a run to the national championship game in 2022. They graduate as the fourth-winningest class in Union lacrosse history with 46 wins in four years.
Men’s Lacrosse – Division III: On Wednesday, April 30, University of Scranton’s Thomas Popolizio (Hen Hud Class of 2023) was named All-Landmark Conference – his first honor at the collegiate level. Popolizio and his team will host the Landmark Conference Championship game against Elizabethtown College on Saturday, May 3, at Weiss Field in Scranton
Baseball – Division III: Several seniors on the Manhattanville baseball team were recognized with a ceremony on Sunday, April 27, including Joshua Gillison (Hen Hud Class of 2021). Unfortunately, Manhattanville fell twice to Purchase College at this event, 10-5 and 18-4.
