Hen Hud’s flag football team faced a challenging week, suffering back-to-back losses.
On Friday, April 11, Hen Hud came up short on the road against Lakeland, 18-13. Hen Hud’s Lucy Mager completed 16 out of 30 passes for 171 yards, including two touchdown passes, and added 38 rushing yards. Maria Ribeiro led the receiving effort with seven catches for 66 yards and got a touchdown. Kate Stratton added four receptions for 43 yards, and Kaitlyn Raguso chipped in with two catches for 31 yards. Elizabeth Calabro also contributed with two catches for 20 yards, a touchdown, and an extra point.
The girls returned home on Monday, April 14, but fell again, 25-22 to Mahopac. For the Sailors, Mager completed 22 out of 27 passes for 249 yards, including three touchdown passes, and added 42 rushing yards. Raguso was the team’s leading receiver with 9 catches for 110 yards. She also had an interception. Ribeiro had six receptions for 30 yards and contributed two extra points and a safety (two points). Stratton had three catches for 58 yards and a touchdown, while Sofia Andrade added two catches for 27 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Ribeiro and Raguso both tallied nine tackles.
Hen Hud (4-3) will hope to bounce back in their next game against Byram Hills on Monday, April 21, at home at 4:30 p.m. The Sailors will also play Westlake on Wednesday, April 23, at Westlake High School at 5 p.m.
Softball
John Glashoff’s varsity softball team continued their dominant start to the season this week, securing three wins to improve their record to 6-0. According to GameDay One, Hen Hud currently sits at top of Class A.
On Friday, April 11, Hen Hud got a 15-0 shutout victory over Riverside, led by Jasmynne Kessler, who tossed five hitless innings while striking out six batters. Hen Hud’s Janae Walker went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs (RBI), Kiely Morley went 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Gianna Valdez was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The following week, on Tuesday, April 15, the Sailors prevailed in a tight clash against Pearl River, 6-5. In eight innings, Emma Barbelet allowed five runs (two of which were earned), and had two strikeouts and issued no walks. Barbelet also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. In addition, Morley went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Janae Walker went 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Bella Booth went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Hen Hud finished the week with a 9-0 away win over Brewster on Wednesday, April 16, behind a two-hitter from Barbelet. Hen Hud’s Angelina Carbone went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Morley and Lillian Tomlinson each went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Emma Johannsen and McKenna Silverman both drove in runs as well.
After several strong performances last week, Janae Walker was voted Lohud’s Softball Player of the Week for April 7-13, with 47% of votes.
Up next, Hen Hud (6-0) will play Yorktown on Saturday, April 19, at Yorktown High School at 11 a.m, followed by a home game against Lakeland on Monday, April 21, at 4:30 p.m. The girls will also play Harrison on Wednesday, April 23, at home at 4:30 p.m.
Baseball
Despite their best efforts, Hen Hud’s varsity baseball team remains winless after seven games.
On April 11, in the first round of the Briarcliff Baseball Tournament, Hen Hud lost to Horace Greeley, 5-4.
This was followed by a 13-2 loss in a five inning game to Tappan Zee on April 14. Tappan Zee’s Anthony Marisco had a big game with two hits, including a grand slam, driving in four runs.
Hen Hud finished the week with consecutive losses to Lakeland, a 9-1 defeat on April 15 and a 8-6 defeat on April 17.
Hen Hud (0-7) will hope their luck changes in their next game against Rye on Saturday, April 19, at home at 12 p.m. The Sailors will also play Pleasantville on the road on Tuesday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m., followed by an away game against Ardsley on Wednesday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m.
Girls Lacrosse

Hen Hud’s girls lacrosse team secured their first win of the season on Monday, April 14, with a 17-9 win over Carmel. At this game, seven seniors on the squad were honored for their senior night, including Lena Pfeiffer, Catherine Wright, Sydney Willkehr, Victoria Calabro, Gianna Gagliardi, Paige Montgomery, and Kayla McCarthy.
During gameplay, Paige Montgomery spearheaded the offensive with five goals and three assists. Trailing her was Kayla McCarthy with four goals and two assists. Victoria Calabro, Carliegh Ortiz, and Lena Pfeiffer each chipped in with two goals.
A game against Horace Greeley on Saturday, April 12, was postponed due to inclement weather.
Now sitting at 1-5 for the season, the Sailors will take on Lakeland-Panas in their next game on Tuesday, April 22, at Walter Panas High School at 4:30 p.m.
Boys Lacrosse
Hen Hud ended their winless start to the season on Saturday, April 12, picking up a 9-1 victory over Byram Hills. Dean Hiltsley led the Sailors offensively with four goals and one assist. James McManus also contributed with two goals and four assists, while Dean Pastolove had two goals and an assist. Ethan Walsh chipped in with one goal and an assist. In net, Aidan Mazzoni recorded 15 saves.
However, the Sailors were unable to build on that momentum in their next game on Tuesday, April 15, suffering an 18-3 loss to Somers. Cam Violante led the Somers Tuskers with four goals, and Miguel Iglesias followed closely behind with three goals and four assists.
For their next games, Hen Hud (1-4) will host Carmel on Tuesday, April 22, at 5 p.m., and Croton on Thursday, April 24, at 5 p.m.
Spring Track
Last weekend (April 11-12), Hen Hud participated in the 2025 New York (NY) Relays at Icahn Stadium at Randall’s Island. At this event, Chloe Howard finished first in the 1,500-meter race walk in 7:39.29. This marks back-to-back victories for Howard, who also won the race walk at the 2024 NY Relays.
On Wednesday, April 16, Hen Hud hosted the 2025 Hen Hud Field Fest Invitational. For the boys, Nasir Emery finished second in the high jump at 5-9, while Taiten Robinson came in fifth at 5-6. On the girls’ side, Monica Rocha came in fourth (80-0) and Harleigh Corcoran finished fifth (79.6) in the discus throw.
A scheduled meet on Saturday, April 12, at Monroe-Woodbury High School was cancelled due to snow.
Hen Hud’s track and field team will return to the track on Tuesday, April 22, for a dual meet at Ardsley High School.
College Corner

Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: Kira Varada (Hen Hud Class of 2021) and the Iona women’s lacrosse team fell 13-10 to Siena College on April 12. Offensively, Varada recorded a hat trick (three goals). Before the game, Iona honored its seniors, including Varada, who is majoring in Psychology.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) Maddie Porter (Hen Hud Class of 2023) had nine saves, four ground balls, and one caused turnover in a 13-11 loss to the University of Oregon on April 11. Porter had another impressive performance on April 13, in a 15-8 win over Kent State University. In this game, she had 12 saves and collected 10 ground balls. With her saves, she brought her season tally to 145, which is the single-season record at EMU, surpassing the 132 she recorded last year. She also has 61 ground balls, making her the only player in EMU history to tally 50 plus in two different seasons.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division 1: The St. Bonaventure women’s lacrosse team lost to Saint Joseph’s University, 15-9, on April 12. Fiona McGovern (Hen Hud Class of 2021) chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Bonnies.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division II: Missouri Western State’s Jordan Porter (Hen Hud Class of 2022) scored two goals against William Jewell College in a 11-10 win on April 13.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division II: University of Mount Olive’s Caroline Clark (Hen Hud Class of 2023) registered a hat trick (three goals) on April 12 in a 13-8 win over Newberry College. Clark also contributed offensively in her team’s 20-3 victory over Converse University on April 16, with two goals. This win secured Mount Olive women’s lacrosse team their fifth-straight Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship.
Track & Field – Division 1: Brown University’s track & field team competed at the Friar Invitational last weekend. For the women’s, Isolde McManus (Class of 2021) finished third out of 30 plus athletes in the 5,000-meter with a time of 16:50.98.
Track & Field – Division III: Last weekend (April 11-12), Gettysburg College’s track & field team finished seventh at the Messiah Invitational. Olivia Taylor (Hen Hud Class of 2021) placed 14th in the pole vault with a personal-best and centennial conference qualifying height of 2.96 meters, which ranks fifth in program history.
Baseball – Division III: On Sunday, April 13, Manhattanville College played against Farmingdale State College in a double header, losing the opener 4-2 before bouncing back with a 9-8 victory in game two. Joshua Gillison (Hen Hud Class of 2021) went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, in the first game. He followed this up by going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs in game two.
