Flowers and plants will serve as the ideal gift to celebrate mothers on their special day. Riverfront Green in Peekskill will display a vibrant array of colors and natural aromas during the annual plant sale hosted by the Peekskill Garden Club. The event will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. at the pavilion, blending local tradition with a spring celebration that brings the community together.
The event will run until 3 p.m. Over the course of six hours, visitors will be able to browse a wide selection of plants and find a meaningful gift for Mother’s Day. The club’s annual plant sale has been held for decades and has become one of the most anticipated gatherings for gardening enthusiasts. A variety of plants and flowers will be on display throughout the day, which also supports charitable purposes.

The community initiative is organized by the club with the goal of raising funds for student scholarships, gardening projects, and the creation of holiday wreaths for civic buildings. Additionally, over the past 90 years, it has played a key role in the beautification of Peekskill. It maintains the Petals public garden on Central Avenue, the planters at the city train station, and a Blue Star Memorial display.
However, beyond public gardens, members of the organization actively engage with local youth through horticulture programs at Woodside Elementary School and planting projects at Depew Park with children from Creative Pre-School.
In this edition of the annual sale, the offering will include a wide variety of species, all selected with different gardening interests and levels of experience in mind. Visitors will find annuals and perennials, vegetables, culinary herbs, roses, native species, and hanging baskets. There will also be options for both sun and shade. For organizers, this diversity ensures that anyone, whether with a large garden or a small balcony, can find something suitable to take home.
The event will take place rain or shine. The club recommends that visitors arrive early, as the most popular plants tend to sell out quickly. The open-air format and free admission allow for a relaxed experience, giving each visitor the opportunity to explore the displays at their own pace.
