The Friday, August 22 deadline marks the final day for Peekskill residents to nominate outstanding members of the Hispanic community living in the city. This voting process is part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15. Nominations can be submitted through an online form available on the official City of Peekskill website.
The initiative aims to recognize Hispanic individuals who have had a positive impact on the community, whether through personal or professional achievements, civic contributions, or actions that have benefited local residents.

During the previous edition in 2024, the city honored seven members of the Hispanic community during an official ceremony. The honorees received proclamations from the Common Council in recognition of their contributions to the city. The meeting took place prior to a Council session and underscored the importance of the Latino community in maintaining civic engagement, promoting culture, and highlighting Hispanic achievements.
For this year, the selection process is expected to follow a similar, transparent, and well-structured format. Residents also anticipate the public ceremony to recognize the selected individuals.
One of the requirements in the nomination form specifies that the nominator must provide as much detailed information as possible about the nominee’s contributions, actions, or activities to ensure an adequate evaluation. Nominations are open to any Hispanic resident who has contributed to the well-being of the Peekskill community.
Testimonials from honorees in previous editions have reflected the diversity of contributions that are valued, ranging from local entrepreneurship to community initiatives. In 2024, for example, one of the awardees described how her business and community work positively impacted neighbors and families, reinforcing her leadership within the city.
