On Saturday, June 28, an estimated more than 1,000 visitors at Peekskill’s Pugsley Park celebrated the 5th Annual Family Pride in the Park, presented by Peekskill Pride. Galvanized by the attraction of 35 performers and 40 vendors and sponsors, it all added up to “an incredible success,” said City of Peekskill Councilman and Peekskill Pride Vice President Brian Fassett.
“He added, “it was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate love, diversity, and community spirit. Events like this are vital not only for our LGBTQIA+ neighbors but also for strengthening, energizing, and uniting our entire city. I couldn’t be prouder to stand alongside everyone as we work to build a stronger, more welcoming, and more vibrant community each year.”
An Instagram post by Freeskill agreed with the sentiment: “Peekskill Pride puts together some of the nicest events in Peekskill. A lot of things say, ‘Fun for all ages,’ but Family Pride seriously is.”
Among highlights of Family Pride: Headliner and International Star Evita Loca, Katarina Mirage Story Time, The Dance Conservatory Dancers, School of Rock from Briarcliff Manor, Blind Tiger Improv with Diamondy Doux, I.Den.t.T, Finale by Ballroom Superstar Lynda Pink Lady and Drag Superstar Blaque Fridae, Children’s Zone and Sensory Play areas, Rainbow Goats, Stilt Walker and Typewriter Poets.
“Peekskill is such a special place because of its diversity and the way that this community shows up for each other,” said Peekskill Pride President Charlie DiGruccio. “I am proud to help create spaces like Family Pride in the Park that reflect the spirit of this city. Events like this show the LGBTQIA+ youth, families, and community members that they belong and are valued in this city.”
