In the two generations Joe Squillante has been photographing the Hudson River, the Peekskill resident has witnessed the birth of the environmental movement, the return of the bald eagle and the lifelong passion of those who love the River.
His half-century of images of the Hudson River, captured from its origin at Lake Tear of the Clouds in the Adirondacks to its mouth in New York Bay, document the ever changing light, seasons and weather of the 315-mile body of water.
To celebrate his golden anniversary, the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers has mounted an exhibit of his work, “Lens on the Hudson,” showcasing 30 of his photographs that haven’t been previously exhibited.
While known for his romantic images of Hudson River landscapes, this exhibit focuses on raising awareness about the conservation efforts and the people who champion preserving the fragile environment of the River.
The exhibit runs through October 19, 2025. On June 21, Squillante will give an Artist Talk at the museum.
