Peekskill is on a strong run of late, remaining unbeaten in their last five matches.
On Tuesday, April 29, Peekskill earned a dominant victory over Poughkeepsie, 26-0. For the Red Devils, Jealina Searight led the charge, completing nine passes, two passing touchdowns, seven rushing attempts, and two rushing touchdowns. Brynne Barros also contributed six receptions.
Two days later, on May 1, Peekskill hosted Walter Panas and won 16-8. In this game, Searight had another big performance, completing 27 passes, 15 rushing attempts, and scoring a rushing touchdown. Defensively, she contributed eight tackles and an interception. On the receiving end, Kimberly Alfaro led the way with seven receptions and a touchdown, while adding nine rushing attempts and three tackles.
The game also celebrated Senior Night, honoring Brynne Barros, Miriam Bonilla, Jeannine Brown, Jessica Chasi, Ericka Inga, Anahi Mejia, Amy Merchan, Jasmine Oliva, Zinnia Quinlan, Brianna Zhunio, and Jealina Searight.
Peekskill capped off the week with a 12-0 away victory against Putnam Valley on Friday, May 2.
Now 7-3-3 on the season, Peekskill will play Hudson River Trailblazers for their next game on Monday, May 5, at Hastings High School at 4:30 p.m. The Red Devils will also host Lakeland on Wednesday, May 7, at 6 p.m., followed by their last game of the regular season against Walter Panas on the road on Friday, May 9, at 4 p.m.
Spring Track

Several Peekskill athletes earned honors at a league meet hosted by Hendrick Hudson High School on April 30.
For the girls, Imani Felder secured league champion status, winning the high jump at 4’9”. Arisa Specce claimed second in the 1,500-meter race walk in 9:04.68, while Valeria Otavalo placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:48.10) and 1,500-meter run (5:49.40).
For the boys, Umaru Conteh became league champion in the high jump with a leap of six feet. Tony Monchinski also became league champion, winning the pentathlon at 2,329 points. Jermaine Carter finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:06.32.
According to Peekskill coach William Diano, several athletes have qualified for the Glenn D. Loucks Games next weekend. Participation is pending confirmation from meet officials. If accepted, Peekskill athletes will compete from Thursday, May 8 to Saturday, May 10, at White Plains High School.
On Friday, May 2, Monchinski represented Peekskill at the Joe Wynne Somers Lions Club Invitational. He finished second overall in the Boys Outdoor Pentathlon Class B category, finishing with 2,395 points.
Softball
Peekskill Softball started their week off with a tough 12-6 loss to Alexander Hamilton on Monday, April 28. In this game, Peekskill’s Audrina Mendez had two walks and an RBI, and Khylee Capozzelli was 1-for-2, with two walks and two RBI. Hamilton’s Bri Harper had a big game, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, one walk, and three RBI.
On Tuesday, April 29, Peekskill responded back with a narrow victory over East Ramapo, 18-17. Mikayla Gonzalez powered the Red Devils, going 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, four RBI, and three runs scored. Capozzeli was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. The game also featured a Senior Night celebration honoring Peekskill’s lone senior, Jazlynn Parra.
On Thursday, May 1, Peekskill struggled on the road, falling 16-0 to Sleepy Hollow.
The following day, May 2, the Peekskill girls ended the week with a home victory over Barack Obama School for Social Justice, 16-8. Parra had a big game, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored. Inara Concepcion went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Harmonies Billy was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and an RBI.
Peekskill (5-6) has a busy schedule with three consecutive games. They start on Monday, May 5, with an away game against Mount Vernon at 4:45 p.m., followed by an away game against East Ramapo on Tuesday, May 6, at 4:45 p.m. The girls will play their last game of the regular season against Mount Vernon on Wednesday, May 7, at Torpy Field at 4:45 p.m.
Baseball
Peekskill’s varsity baseball team continued to struggle with inconsistency last week.
The Red Devils opened with a strong 9-3 victory over Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, April 29. Peekskill’s Jaden Bradby pitched six innings with nine strikeouts and went 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles and three RBI.
However, team morale quickly declined 24 hours later, when Peekskill lost 11-4 to East Ramapo at home. Freshman Justin Chillogallo came in to relieve and struck out six. He gave up just one run in four innings.
A scheduled rematch against East Ramapo scheduled on Thursday, May 1, was cancelled but is expected to be rescheduled.
Now sitting at 3-6, Peekskill returns to action on Monday, May 5, for an away game against Barack Obama School for Social Justice at 4:30 p.m. The Red Devils will also face Alexander Hamiliton on the road on Tuesday, May 6, at 4:45 p.m., followed by a home game against Woodlands on Thursday, May 8, at 4:30 p.m.
Winter Honors
The 2024/25 winter season may be in the rearview mirror, but accolades continue to roll in for basketball standouts Jaden Chavis and Isaiah Crawford. On April 28, the New York State Sportswriters Association named Chavis Class AA Eighth team All-State, while Crawford received an honorable mention.
Upcoming event
On Friday, May 9, Peekskill High School will host a Student vs Staff basketball game in the gymnasium. Tip off is at 5 p.m. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. Concessions will be sold and the game is a chance for the Peekskill community to watch some stars for the last time. Don’t miss out.
College Watch

Track & Field – Division III: At Day One of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships last weekend, SUNY Plattsburgh’s Isaiah Ritter (Peekskill Class of 2023) took second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.89 meters. The mark is a new personal record and qualified him for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships.
Softball – NJCAA Division III: On April 27, Monroe University – Bronx softball team split a double header against Suffolk County Community College, winning the first game 15-7 before losing 11-3 in the second game. The day also served as Sophomore Day, where the team honored its second-year players, including Judaiah Gourdine (Peekskill Class of 2022).
According to Monroe Express Athletics, this year Gourdine has compiled five wins and eight complete games as a pitcher and struck out 51 batters. At the plate, she tied the program’s single-season record with six home runs and has drilled five doubles this year.
On May 4, Gourdine went 2-for-3 and stole two bases in Monroe’s 9-1 loss to Dutchess Community College. This was the teams last game of the season.
