Softball

Returning from spring break, Peekskill’s varsity softball team suffered a 21-4 defeat to Blind Brook on Tuesday, April 22. This marked their second loss to Blind Brook this season.
The Blind Brook Trojans were powered by strong performances from Bella Montesano, who was 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored, and Charlotte Florin, who was 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, and four runs scored. For Peekskill, Jenna Shurak went 1-for-2 with a home run, a RBI, and two runs scored, Ariannah Oviedo went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI, and Mikayla Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with a double, a RBI, and one run scored.
On Thursday, April 24, Peekskill rebounded with a 11-6 away victory over Gorton. Peekskill’s Shurak was 1-for-1 with a RBI and a run scored, Khylee Capozzelli was 1-for-1 with a double and two runs scored, and Harmonies Billy contributed two RBI.
The Red Devils wrapped up the week with a dominant 17-5 home win over Poughkeepsie on Friday, April 25. On Peekskill’s side, Shurak was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored, Gonzalez was 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run scored, Oviedo was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored, and Inara Concepcion was 1-for-1 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Up next, Peekskill (3-4) will face Alexander Hamiltion at their house on Monday, April 28, at 4:45 p.m. The Red Devils return home on Tuesday, April 29, for their Senior Night game against East Ramapo at 4:45 p.m. The girls will then travel to Sleepy Hollow on Thursday, May 1, for a 3:45 p.m game, followed by a home matchup against Barack Obama School for Social Justice on Friday, May 2, at 4:30 p.m.
Baseball

It was an up-and-down week for Peekskill baseball. On Thursday, April 24, the Red Devils fell to Poughkeepsie on the road, 13-3.
But they bounced back the following day (April 25), with a victory over Barack Obama School for Social Justice, 15-1. The game also served as Senior night, honoring Peekskill seniors Mekai Calloway, Mathew Minaya, and Joshua Salvati. Sophomore Jayden Brandy tallied 12 strikeouts and went 2-for-2 with a single, a double, and two walks.
Now at 2-5 for the season, Peekskill returns to action on Tuesday, April 29, against Poughkeepsie at 4:30 p.m, followed by a game against East Ramapo on Wednesday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Peekskill Stadium. The boys will finish the week with an away match against East Ramapo on Friday, May 2, at 4:30 p.m.
Flag Football
Peekskill picked up its fourth win of the season on Wednesday, April 23, with a dominant 40-6 win over Poughkeepsie at home.
The Red Devils were then held to a 7-7 draw with Lakeland on Thursday, April 24. Jealina Searight had a rushing touchdown, 24 carries, and completed 19 passes. She also had seven tackles and one interception. Kimberly Alfaro led the team on the receiving end with seven receptions, while also contributing three rushing attempts and four tackles.
Now sitting at 4-3-3, Peekskill will play Poughkeepsie for their next game on Tuesday, April 29, at Poughkeepsie High School at 5 p.m. The Red Devils will also have their Senior Night against Walter Panas on Thursday, May 1, at home at 4:15 p.m. The girls end the week with an away game against Putnam Valley on Friday, May 2, at 4:30 p.m.
Spring Track

Peekskill hosted a dual meet against Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday, April 22. For the boys, Jermaine Carter took first place in the 400-meter race with a time of 54.27. Oscar Curillo finished second in the 800-meter race in 2:25.5, while Tony Monchinski placed second in the shot put at 32 ‘5″. Umaru Conteh placed first in the high jump at 6’0”.
For the girls, Nyla Tisdell finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.10, and Valeria Otavalo finished second in the 1,500-meter race in 5:52.32. Jaylah Gourdine won the shot put at 20’ 4”, and Imani Felder claimed first place in the long jump at 13′ 7”.
On Saturday, April 26, the Peekskill girls competed at the 2025 Croton Relays at Yorktown High School. Jennifer Meza finished fifth in the 1,600-meter race walk with a time of 10:35.41. Imani Felder placed second in the high jump at 4’10”, while Adrienne Copeland placed fifth at 4’6”. Felder, Copeland, Tisdell, and Amanda Nelson took fourth in the 4×100 relay in 54.94.
Meanwhile, the Peekskill boys competed at the 2025 Mamaroneck Relays. Umaru Conteh won the high jump at 6’2”, while Josiah McClean placed fourth in the long jump at 16’9.75”. The relay team of Monchinski, Curillo, Carter, and Justin Vizhnay finished third in the 4×800 relay in 9:25.64. Carter, McClean, Marcus Pruitt, and Gregory Tompkins III finished third in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay in 4:06.23. Conteh, McClean, Carter, and Josiah Jones finished fourth in the 4×100 relay in 48.39.
For their next competition, Peekskill’s spring track team will compete in a league meet against Ardsley, Hen Hud, and Sleepy Hollow on Wednesday, April 30, at Hendrick Hudson High School.
Winter Honors – Boys Basketball
This past month, Lohud announced its Westchester/Putnam boys basketball all-star teams for the 2024-25 season. Peekskill standout Jaden Chavis earned third team honors, while Isaiah Crawford was selected as an honorable mention.
College Corner

Track & Field – Division 1: On Saturday, April 26, the University at Buffalo track and field program competed at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic in Rochester. Brianna Carter (Peekskill Class of 2023) placed sixth out of 17 runners in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:46.10.
Track & Field – Division 1: Last weekend, the University at Buffalo (UB) track and field program was in Florida, participating in the University of Central Florida’s Knight Invite. Juliette Salazar (Peekskill Class of 2023) joined program history, finishing seventh out of 47 runners in the women’s 800-meter race in 2:10.94. Her time ranks eighth in UB outdoor history. Salazar’s previous best in the event was 2:13.12.
