Flag Football

Peekskill’s varsity flag football is steadily gaining momentum after a week of mixed results.
On Tuesday, April 1, Peekskill was blown away by reigning Section 1 Division 2 champs Brewster, 31-0. Peekskill’s Jealina Searight had seven passing attempts, rushed the ball eight times, and had five tackles. Mirian Bonilla contributed with five tackles, Kimberly Alfaro had six receptions, and Jayla Smith had three receptions.
Things improved on April 3, when Peekskill earned a hard fought draw against Fox Lane, 25-25. Jealina Searight got things going early for Peekskill with a 45-yard pick six, giving Peekskill a 6-0 lead. Kimberly Alfaro got a one-point conversion to make it 7-0. However, Fox Lane turned things around quickly, finishing the first half, 13-7.
Fox Lane continued to control the game in the second half, extending their lead to 25-7. It looked bleak for the Red Devils but they refused to give up. With 11 minutes left in the game, Searight connected with Zinnia Quinlan for an 86-yard touchdown – igniting a late comeback. Searight added a second touchdown with three minutes to go. With less than 20 seconds left, Searight got her third touchdown and tied the game, 25-25.

Baseball

Peekskill Stadium is back in business. After a lengthy closure due to outfield repairs, the ballpark has reopened for the 2025 season. Last year, Peekskill’s baseball team had to play their games at Torpy Field.
On Wednesday, April 2, Peekskill made its return to Peekskill Stadium, kicking off the season against Haldane. Unfortunately, the homecoming did not go as planned, as the Red Devils were shut out, 10-0. Haldane’s pitcher Hudson Yeaple did not allow Peekskill to hit, while Haldane’s Hunter Erickson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jake Hotaling went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
“Although we got crushed, seeing our senior Mathew Minaya show up and deliver was good. Mathew only gave up one run the entire game. Our catchers, junior Rocco D’Elia and Mathew Minaya, had great chemistry,” said head coach Joshian Fernandez.
A game against Alexander Hamilton on April 7 was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Peekskill, who is currently 0-1 for the season, will travel to Yonkers on Tuesday, April 8, to face Yonkers Montessori at 4:30 p.m. Peekskill will also face Alexander Hamilton at home at 4:45 p.m on Wednesday, April 9, and Yonkers Montessori on Thursday, April 10, at home at 4:30 p.m.
