Boys Lacrosse

After raising nearly $19,000 in an online fundraising campaign, Hen Hud’s boys lacrosse team (the Sailors) officially kicked off their season on Tuesday, April 1, on the road at Scarsdale.
Despite five goals and one assist from Drew Hiltsley, the Sailors lost to Scarsdale, 14-9. James McManus, Dean Pastolove, Billy Magliano, and Ethan Walsh, also got on the scoresheet with one goal a piece. Aidan Mazzoni had 13 saves in goal for the Sailors.
Later in the week, seniors Aidan Mazzoni and James McManus were named in Lohud’s 2025 boys lacrosse watch list. Lohud’s Mike Dougherty said “Each of the athletes on this list has already begun to build a reputation for delivering under pressure.”
On April 3, Hen Hud lost 15-4 to Tappan Zee in their first home game of the season. For the Sailors, Mason Dietz had two goals, Drew Hiltsley and Dean Pastolove, each had one goal. In goal, Aidan Mazzaoni had 28 saves.
Hen Hud, led by head coach Troy Lepore, currently hold a record of 2 losses. Up next for Hen Hud is a game against Pelham on Wed., April 9, at Glover Field at 5:15 p.m.
Girls Lacrosse
Last weekend (March 29), Hen Hud participated in the Suffern Play Day annual scrimmage event. “[It] was a good day. Weather was amazing and it was a great day to work on a lot of things with our team,” said head coach Robert Porter. During this event, Hen Hud played Mamaroneck, Suffern, Clarkstown South, Harrison, and Niskayuna. That same day, Lohud named Hen Hud’s Gianna Gagliardi, Kayla McCarthy, Paige Montgomery, and Carliegh Ortiz, in their 2025 girls lacrosse watch list.
On Tuesday, April 1, the Sailors hosted Mamaroneck. The Hen Hud girls put up a fight but were unable to pick up their first victory of the season, losing, 13-10. Senior captain Paige Montgomery and sophomore Carleigh Ortiz led the Sailors offensively with four and three goals, respectively. Kayla McCarthy, Gianna Cagliardi, and Lena Pfieffer, also scored one goal a piece. Mia Dietz had eight saves in goal.
The following day (April 2), Hen Hud took on North Rockland and suffered another tough loss, 18-8.
Hen Hud currently holds a record of three losses. The girls will hope to bounce back in their next game against Pelham on Tuesday, April 8, at home at 4:30 p.m.
Flag Football

Hen Hud’s varsity girls flag football team kicked off their season in style with a 33-6 win against Byram Hills on March 28. The Hen Hud girls dominated 27-0 at halftime. For the Sailors, Lucy Mager was active early – going 10-16 for 150 yards, racking up three touchdowns, 2 extra points, and three carries for 42 yards – all in the first half. Kaitlyn Raguso had three catches for 59 yards and got one touchdown. Kate Stratton had three catches for 30 yards and 2 interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Jonna Rivera had two catches for 39 yards and one touchdown. Elizabeth Calabro had one catch for 18 yards and one touchdown. Rodraya Pope was the top runner of the game, rushing 69 yards.
However, Hen Hud’s momentum was cut short on Monday, March 31, with a 25-0 loss to three time league champs 2024 Division 2 Section 1 champs Brewster. “Our girls competed the entire game and we have a lot to be proud of,” said head coach Craig Solomon.
Hen Hud is currently 1-1 for the seasons. The Sailors return to action on Friday, April 4, against Bronxville at Bronxville High School at 5 p.m. The girls will also play Irvington on Monday, April 7, at home at 5 p.m. and Dobbs Ferry on Thursday, April 10, at Springhurst Elementary School at 4:30 p.m.
Track & Field

On March 28, Hen Hud’s varsity spring track and field team participated in the 2025 Tusker Twilight Invitational.
For the boys, Oliver Birotte finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.15 and Nasir Emery placed second in the high jump at 5-8. For the girls, Chloe Howard set a new school record in the 1,500-meter race walk, with a time of 7:48.25, Lexi Corcoran finished third in the 1,500-meter race walk in 9:08.91, Elizabeth Apienti placed second in shot put at 28-1, Nissa Emery placed third in the long jump at 14-8.75, and Isabelle Carvalho finished fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:35.84.
Hen Hud got some practice in on Tuesday, April 1, in a dual meet against Peekskill. For the boys, Oliver Birotte finished first in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.25, Kenneth Mora finished first in 400-meter dash in 55.30, Vivek Sekhri took first place in the 1,600-meter run in 5:03.75, and Victor Delgado finished first in the 800-meter run in 2:04.78. For the girls, Sophia Savatgy finished first in the 100-meter dash in 12.82 and Nissa Emery finished first in the 200-meter dash in 28.77. Up next, the Sailors head to the Pearl River Invitational on Saturday, April 5, at Pearl River High School, followed by the Sing Invitational on Wednesday, April 9, at White Plains High School.
Boys Tennis
Hen Hud’s boys tennis team continued its strong start to the season with two 7-0 victories over Sleepy Hollow on March 28. According to head coach Bradley Fredman, the Sailors were led by strong singles play from Nicholas Gatto, Anderson Rench, and Ben Kashnir. Jericho Shea/Musa Abdallah, Xair Lesende/Seth Otero, Adrian Szostak/Jacob Markovitch, and Max Parker/Miles Eichenholtz, all had impressive doubles performances.
On Wed., April 2, the Sailors got a narrow 4-3 victory over Walter Panas through a second singles victory from Ezra Smith. Hen Hud’s Anderson Rench won at singles and Jacob Markovitch/Adrian Szostak and Max Parker/Ben Kushnir at doubles.
The boys were scheduled to play two games against Somers (March 31) and Walter Panas (April 2), but both were rained out.
Hen Hud will hit the road on Tuesday, April 8, to face Mahopac at Mahopac High School at 4:30 p.m. They will also play on Thursday, April 10, against Carmel at home at 4:30 p.m.
College Corner

Women’s Lacrosse – Division I: Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) Maddie Porter (Hen Hud Class of 2023) is proving to be one of the top goalkeepers in the Mid-American Conference.
On Sunday, March 30, Porter tallied nine saves and one ground ball in a narrow 10-9 loss to Central Michigan University, thus reaching 106 saves this season. Porter is the first EMU player to record 100 plus saves in multiple seasons after she set a program record 132 last year.
In the team’s following game on April 2, Porter racked up seven saves and a team-high four ground balls in EMU’s 17-5 loss to the University of Michigan. According to EMU Athletics, Porter, who entered the game with 99 career ground balls, is now the first player in EMU history with 100 plus (103).
Women’s Lacrosse – Division I: The St. Bonaventure women’s lacrosse team is experiencing their best start to a season since 2005, with a 4-1 record. Contributing to their success this season is senior Fiona McGovern (Hen Hud Class of 2021). On March 29, McGovern scored three goals and got three assists in a 18-9 win over Virginia Commonwealth University.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division I: On March 29, Kira Varada (Hen Hud Class of 2021) led the Iona University women’s lacrosse team to a 17-12 victory over Marist. Varada scored four goals and had three assists. She also had nine draw controls, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division II: Missouri Western’s Jordan Porter (Hen Hud Class of 2022) recorded two goals, one assist, and a team-best five ground balls in the March 31 game against Dominican University of California. However, Dominican won 12-11.
Women’s Lacrosse – Division II: Sophomore Caroline Clark (Class of 2023) racked up two goals and one assist for the University of Mount Olive in their Tuesday night victory against Barton College, 18-10.
Men’s Lacrosse – Division III: The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team pulled off an impressive 24-6 victory over Lycoming College on April 2. In this game, Dean Hiltsley (Hen Hud Class of 2023) recorded two goals for the Scranton Royals.
Track & Field – Division III: Karli Martin (Hen Hud Class of 2023) of the Vermont State University Castleton women’s track & field team took seventh place in the shot put at the Southern New Hampshire University Spring Invitational on March 28, recording a mark of 10.11.
Notes

Calling all future Sailors. The Town of Cortlandt, Coach Megan Boyle, and players on the Hen Hud girls varsity basketball team will hold a one-week basketball camp on July 21-25, 2025 for girls in grades 2-5. Participants will receive individual instruction on dribbling, passing, shooting, and rebounding. Daily contests will be held with an emphasis on team offensive and defensive concepts. Registration is currently open.
The Town of Cortlandt Recreation Department is offering youth tackle football this year for boys in grades 2-6. The program will begin in late August and end in early November. Schedule will be released as the season approaches with games scheduled on the weekends. Register here.
