Boys’ Basketball
Peekskill will head into their last two games of the regular season with a boost of confidence, after picking up an impressive victory last week.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, the Red Devils made the short trip to Montrose to take on Hendrick Hudson. Just like in their first encounter this season, Peekskill proved to be the superior side, beating the Sailors, 69-47. Peekskill’s Jojo Brickhouse led the team in points with 16. In addition, Jaden Chavis dropped 15 points and Isaiah Crawford had 14.
Peekskill currently holds a record of 12 wins and six losses. Their next game will be against Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Sleepy Hollow High School at 4:30 p.m. The boys will finish off the regular season against Edgemont High School on Saturday, Feb. 15, at home at 1 p.m.
Girls’ Basketball
It was a rough week for the Peekskill Varsity Girls Basketball team.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, the Red Devils suffered a devastating loss to Hendrick Hudson at home, 63-19. Senior Jazlynn Parra scored 10 points in this game for Peekskill. For the Sailors, Kaitlyn Raguso scored 13 points.
Two days later, on Feb. 7, Peekskill was defeated by Edgemont, 44-34, on the road. This was the second time Peekskill lost to Edgemont this season. In this game, Jealina Searight scored 11 points for the Red Devils and Nai’lah Smalls and Riley Jenkins both scored 10.
A Tuesday (Feb. 11) home game against Saunders has been cancelled. No wins or losses will be recorded, according to Athletic Director Austin Goldberg.
The Peekskill girls currently hold a record of six wins and 12 losses. For their next and final match of the regular season, Peekskill will host Port Chester on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
Wrestling
The 2024-25 winter season has come to an end for Peekskill’s Varsity Wrestling team.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, Peekskill competed in Section 1 divisionals at the Westchester County Center in White Plains. According to Coach Andre Lee, no Peekskill wrestler placed in the top four in any weight class.
The Section 1 Division 1 championships will be held at the Westchester County Center, starting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 and concluding on Wednesday, Feb. 12. The winners of the tournament in each weight class advance to the state tournament, which will be held at the end of the month, at the MVP Arena in Albany.
Winter Track
On Sunday, Feb. 16, Arisa Specce and Jermaine Carter will represent Peekskill at the Class B sectionals at The Armory in New York City. Specce will compete in the 1,500 meter race walk and Carter will compete in the 600 meter run.
