If you are feeling a bit rushed as the holiday season bears down at a lightning fast rapid pace, you are not alone. This year the 2024 holiday season is the shortest it has been since 2019 with only 27 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This, following the 2023 season where we enjoyed one of the longest holiday seasons with 32 days between the holidays, five extra days. But thou shall not fear, hip-hip hooray, the 2024 HoliYAY! Market is here.
From Christmas trees to holiday gifts and everything in between, the Peekskill HOLIYAY! Market is set to transform Peekskill’s Railroad Avenue, dubbed as Station Square, into a winter wonderland of local shopping and holiday spirit on Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15th from 12 PM to 4 PM each day.
The 2024 HoliYAY Market will bring vibrancy to Railroad Avenue with the same feel of a small town featured in a Hallmark Christmas movie. The free outdoor holiday market, organized by YAY! Markets will showcase over 40 local vendors and makers of crafts each day, offering a unique opportunity for holiday shoppers to find one-of-a-kind gifts from handmade jewelry, artisanal foods, to unique home decor, and more. Not only does the festive event feature local artisans and vendors, but it will also feature community tables hosted by local organizations such as Arts10566, the Rotary Club of Peekksill, and Retake/Remake.
To top it off, live entertainment from local musical talents including Kristina Koller, Matt Wolpe, Anita Rein, Ben Dyleuth and DJ Joey Mercedes will be provided creating a truly festive atmosphere on Railroad Avenue. The only thing missing is a light snow flurry and Santa Claus. However, Fred Camino and Stefanie Apple, co-creators of YAY! Markets recently received word straight from the North Pole that a jolly ol’ man in a red suit will visit the HoliYAY! Market on Saturday making a special appearance.
“We’re thrilled to bring back the HOLIYAY! Market to Peekskill’s Station Square. We love the idea of making holiday shopping local again. Sure, it seems like you can get everything online and shipped to your door from global retailers, but what you miss are truly unique gifts and most importantly, the age-old community-building experience that can only happen in real-world marketplaces like ours,” said Camino, founder of Peekskill Exurbanist.
“Now more than ever, it’s essential to create spaces for our community to connect and support one another. We’re thrilled to come together once again to celebrate connection, creativity, and the joy of shopping small at the HOLIYAY! Market,” said Apple, founder of POME florals.
While visiting the HoliYAY! Market, be sure to dine and shop at the businesses located along the Waterfront District and then explore the rest of Peekskill. The Discover Peekskill shuttle will be running between market and downtown on Saturday making transportation between the downtown and the waterfront a breeze.
In case of inclement weather, the HoliYaY! Market will be relocated to downtown Peekskill inside of the old Ford Piano building and coincide with the Peekskill Art alliance Big Art Show. If the market is moved, word will be shared via the HoliYAY! Facebook and Instagram and the Peeksill Exurbanist Facebook and Instagram pages.
YAY! Markets is a local initiative dedicated to bringing elevated outdoor market experiences to the Hudson Valley. Created in 2021, YAY! Markets has quickly become a cornerstone of Peekskill’s seasonal market events, celebrating local artisans and fostering community connections.
