Everyone knows the song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, here is a new Peekskill rendition. Go ahead and sing along.
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?Peekskill the red-nosed reindeers
They all have a shiny nose
And when you get to see them
You will even say it glowsAll of the other reindeers
Laugh and cheer and make good noise
Watching Peekskill’s red-nosed reindeers
Running ‘round town with unwrapped toysThen one chilly December 4th day
The Citizens of Peekskill did say
Reindeer with your noses so bright,
Donate a toy and make a child’s night brightOh how the children loved them
As they shouted out with glee
Peekskill the Red-Nosed Reindeers
You’ll go down in Peekskill history
I promise I won’t quit my day job, but I do promise you will have a great time at the 4th annual Reindeer Run on Saturday December 7, 2024 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Peekskill Central Firehouse. Registration is free with the donation of a toy and/or non-perishable food donation. Toys donated will go to the Peekskill Salvation Army, and food donated will go to local pantries that serve our community. Pre-registering in advance is not required, but completely helpful and useful to the organizers so they can prepare for the event properly. Everyone from all age brackets are welcome to run (walk or jog) at this free event. To pre-register, use this link.
The short, three-quarter of a mile, Reindeer Run starts and ends at the Peekskill Central Firehouse. The course travels west along Park St to S. Division St, then along Division to Crompond Rd, where it will travel east to Broad St, turning north and ending back at the firehouse. A simple short fun route for participants.
Racers are encouraged to wear the brightest, the merriest, and the craziest holiday themed costumes for a chance to win a prize and award. Everyone cheering on the participants are encouraged to wear their best (or their ugliest) Christmas sweater. Prizes for best costumes and other categories will be awarded at the conclusion of the race to participants.
After the Reindeer Run, Rudolph and Santa will make an appearance and take pictures with all of the boys and girls, as well as all of the racers and those in attendance. This is another one of those family fun community events that Peekskill does so well.
If you would like to make a donation prior to the event, donations can be dropped off any day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Peekskill Central Firehouse until the day of the race. Don’t forget to wear the brightest, the merriest, the craziest holiday themed costumes for a chance to win a prize and award.
The Reindeer Run is sponsored by the Peekskill St. Patrick’s Committee and the Hudson Valley Irish Center & Fest with support of the Peekskill Fire Department, Peekskill Police Department, LAOH Division 18 Peekskill, Fighting 69th AOH Division 18 Peekskill, the Peekskill Lions Club and Run PB.
The idea for the Reindeer Run is based on the firstl Turkey Run, started by Chuck McGreal and the Quiet Man Public House in 2010. In 2021, Chuck once again came up with an event to benefit the public in the Reindeer Run. The inaugural Reindeer Run was held in Depew Park on the first Saturday of December in 2021. It was sponsored by the Hudson Valley Irish Fest in conjunction with the Hudson Valley Irish Center, AOH Division 18, the Peekskill St Patrick’s Committee and the Peekskill Professional Firefighters Local 2343. As the years have gone on, more partners have joined making it truly a community event.
The mission of the Reindeer Run is to harness the good will of the participating organizations, and the general public, to provide a conduit for the public to come together to help our friends, family and neighbors who may need a little help at the holiday season. The “fee” is the donation of a new unwrapped toy or nonperishable food items. All of the toys donated are then distributed to the Peekskill Salvation Army for their annual toy drive and non-perishable food items are donated to local food banks.
Don’t forget to tell everyone at the Reindeer Run, you read about it in the Peekskill Herald.
December is the final month of the Peekskill Herald’s big annual fundraising campaign – where every dollar donated is matched, dollar for dollar, by major national funders through our partnership with News Match. Please help by donating to keep this 501c3 news organization thriving.
