The day after Halloween, Mariah Carey dubbed the “Queen of Christmas” unthaws from her yearly hibernation, as the running joke goes, due to her music starting to play everywhere you go from the grocery stores to the department stores. Ever since her October 29, 1994, #1 release All I Want For Christmas Is You it has become a Christmas standard rising in popularity every holiday season annually re-entering the Top 100 charts worldwide in the weeks before Christmas reaching number one in over 30 countries according to Wikipedia.
With Mariah unthawed and All I Want For Christmas Is You hitting the airwaves, that only means Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. As such, the Westchester Cars & Coffee group is gearing up for the holidays and holding their 4th annual Toy Drive on November 3rd, and two weeks later the 4th annual Food Drive on November 17 to benefit the Youth of the City of Peekskill. Both events will occur, rain or shine, at the groups new location at 7 John Walsh Boulevard, the site of the HQ Auto Vault where a car haven has been created as reported by the Herald.
On Sunday, November 3, from 8 to 10 a.m., the Westchester Cars & Coffee group will hold their 4th annual Toy Drive to benefit the children and youth of the City of Peekskill. The group is hoping to fill a fully restored 1957 Chevrolet school bus where 100 percent of the toys are then given to the City of Peekskill Youth Bureau who will distribute them in December. The group will accept any and all new unwrapped toys, regardless of age, that boys and girls and teenagers would enjoy. Though it is not always easy, try if you can to shop local in Peekskill and help our local businesses while helping our children and youth.
Two weeks later, on Sunday, November 17 from 8 to 10 a.m., the Westchester Cars & Coffee group will hold their 4th annual Food Drive in conjunction with the Peekskill Youth Bureau. The community is invited and asked to bring non-perishable Thanksgiving food items to the group meet and ogle over hundreds of amazing cars. All of the food donated will go to the Peekskill Youth Bureau who will then distribute the food just before Thanksgiving to families in need. From stuffing mix to instant potatoes, dried beans, and canned beans, vegetables, gravy, or pumpkin all items will be accepted. Other great items to donate are boxed cornbread, condiments & spices, vegetable or olive oil, non-stick pan spray, nuts or dried fruit, pasta, cake or brownie mixes just to name a few non-perishable items. This is the final meet of the season for the Westchester Cars & Coffee group which began on March 17 this year.
The Peekskill community has always shown up and helped out our own times of need. Help spread the joy of Thanksgiving and the holidays this year and donate a new unwrapped toy and two weeks later, donate non-perishable food items to the Westchester Cars & Coffee 4th annual Toy Drive and Food Drive.
