Peekskill residents will have the chance to ask questions of the candidates running for election this Saturday at a Forum hosted by the Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus at the Presbyterian Church, 705 South Street from 10 a.m. to noon. Candidates who have agreed to participate are: Mondaire Jones, running for a seat in the House of Representatives 17th District. Candidate Mike Lawler’s campaign didn’t respond to a request to participate according to Jackie Simpkins of the Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus.
The campaigns of Pete Harckham and Gina Arena, vying for the New York State Senate seat in the 40th District, confirmed their candidates attendance as did the campaigns of Dana Levenberg and Michael Capalbo who are contesting a seat in the 95th New York State Assembly.
On the same day, Saturday, October 26 at 2 p.m. residents are invited to an Interfaith prayer brunch at the United Methodist Church at 1040 Main Street where faith leaders from various communities will gather to share sacred texts and other prayers for the United States. The event aims to bring together people of all faiths in a spirit of unity and mutual care. The focus is on fostering solidarity among different religious groups during a crucial time in the life of our country. The collective prayer gathering is especially important as the nation prepares for the 2024 election.
