“The best of Ireland and the Hudson Valley come together at the Hudson Valley Irish Fest” proclaims Dan Dennehy, founding chair of the Hudson Valley Irish Festival. The 15th annual Hudson Valley Irish Festival is set to take place this Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Peekskill’s Riverfront Green Park.
There are so many things to do at the Hudson Valley Irish Festival, not just for the adults, but for the kids and everyone in between. Shari Crawford will bring traditional 18th Century games for all to play including ninepins, walking on stilts, shinny and even writing in a journal with a feather quill pen. A spoken word tent will be open for everyone where attendees can enjoy poets reciting traditional Irish poems from 1 to 4 p.m. Of course the Clan na hÉireann School of Irish Dance will cut a rug when they perform traditional Irish dances at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
The Hudson Valley Irish Festival will have some of the most amazing music in the Hudson Valley on Saturday. On the main stage throughout the day will be Rising of the Moon Seisun, Daisy Jopling Band, Mary Courtney, Phineas & The Lonely Leaves, T. McCann Band, Scott Metey, and MUNDY. In addition, the Hudson Valley Irish Festival will hold a Tribute to the late Tim Murphy, HVIF Board member and Founder, and a 9/11 Commemoration with Massed Pipe Bands and Joe Murphy.
Attendees will not go hungry, and hopefully will have a big appetite as there will be plenty of food trucks including The Chipper, Slainte, Bawse Burger, Homestyle Desserts, American Dogs, Reggae Boy, Gaetano’s, and Kathleen’s Tea Room. There will also be a beer garden with Irish and domestic beers on tap.
Craft vendors from around the area will be there where one can buy Celtic wares from candles to apothecary. A sampling of the vendors include Celt Wares, Celtic Aer, Cooper’s Daughter Spirits, Moonlight Apiary, and many more.
Local community organizations will be there including, the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, the Peekskill St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians Division 18, and the Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians Division 18.
The Hudson Valley Irish Fest is a community-driven event, made possible by the generous support of the men, women, and families of AOH Fighting 69th Regiment Peekskill Division 18 Westchester County Hibernians. The Consulate General of Ireland NY also plays a crucial role, providing an annual grant from the Emigrant Support Program of the Foreign Affairs Department.
“Celebrate halfway to St. Patrick’s Day at the Hudson Valley Irish Festival. With food, music, and Irish products, this is a day you don’t want to miss. Take in the views and our family friendly atmosphere. Make the Hudson Valley Irish Fest on the gorgeous Peekskill Riverfront Green a must do on your calendar!” exclaims Dennehy.
Tickets are $10 at the door or can be purchased in advance via Eventbrite. To learn more about the Hudson Valley Irish Fest, visit their website, www.hvif.org, Facebook page, or Instagram page.
