Police make arrest in homicide on North James Street

The home at 10 Grant Avenue between Park Street and Lincoln Terrace where a suspect was arrested, is owned by Vivian C. McKenzie according to land use records.

A stabbing death, a fire and an arrest, all within 11 hours, in Peekskill on Wednesday. Edward Reeves, 48, died at Westchester Medical Center from multiple stab wounds today and police have arrested a suspect. They are not releasing the name at this point.

Police report they received a call at 12:25 in the morning from 7 North James Street that there had been an altercation with an individual suffering from multiple stab wounds. When they arrived, they treated Reeves and he was transported by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center.  Eleven hours later, at 11:25 a.m., police investigators attempted to speak with a person of interest in the stabbing who was at 10 Grant Avenue.

According to police, the individual became uncooperative and subsequently barricaded himself in the home. Residents could see and hear a helicopter hovering in the air above the neighborhood formerly known as ‘Finktown.’ Minutes later it was discovered the building was on fire. Eventually, the person involved exited the home through a second-floor window and was taken into custody by police officers. A check of the structure revealed no other persons were inside the structure. Peekskill Fire Department along with several other surrounding fire agencies responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire according to a press release issued by the police department on Wednesday afternoon.
