Clothing, toys, books, kitchen utensils, sports equipment, decorations, and small electronic items will be ready to find a new home on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Community Swap will take place at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor, beginning at 9 a.m. The event aims to foster connections among neighbors and promote sustainable practices. Residents will be able to donate items they no longer use and take home other items.
Community Swap is part of a program by the Green Team of Cortlandt designed to reuse objects and reduce waste. The event will last at least four hours. Pre-event drop-offs will be accepted on Friday, Oct. 17, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.,and on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Only clean, reusable, portable items in good condition and working order will be accepted.

This activity has been popular in previous editions. Community response has attracted a significant audience, and similar results are expected this year. The organization has consistently managed the reception and implementation of the swap in a well-structured and punctual manner. In past years, organizers have been specific about the items allowed, such as lightweight wooden furniture (under 50 pounds). They have also emphasized exclusions, including furniture with glass parts and large appliances.
Regarding clothing collection, the Community Swap will receive support from the Rotary Club of Cortlandt Manor, which, together with Helpsy —an organization that collects and recycles used clothing, collaborates with communities and nonprofit organizations to give garments a second life— will receive the clothing donations and later distribute them to those in need.
During the swap, donated items will be arranged by category for easy access. There will be sections for books, kitchen items, toys, decorations, crafts, and electronics, all organized. Attendees are expected to select freely the items they need and take them home at no cost.
At the end of the event, remaining items will be distributed to local social organizations or recycled, according to the conditions established by the municipality and the event organizers. The Town of Cortlandt has announced in past notices that items not claimed will be sent to charitable organizations or reuse programs. For more information, interested parties can consult the town’s website or contact the Green Team office.
