Wood transformed into sculptures and utensils, handcrafted jewelry, ceramics shaped in local studios, and a variety of objects created using traditional and contemporary techniques will be on display on Saturday, September 27, at Cortlandt Waterfront Park in Verplanck, approximately four miles from Peekskill. The event, called the Festival of Makers – Artisans of the Hudson Valley, will also feature live music, food offerings, and free public admission.

The event, opening at 11 a.m., is organized by the Town of Cortlandt. Weeks ago, registration opened for artisans, artists, small businesses, and non-profit organizations interested in participating. Nearly 90 ventures responded to the call. The day will continue until 5 p.m.
The purpose of the gathering is to highlight the region’s artisanal work and provide a space for creators to connect with the public. “Meet the makers and browse unique, handcrafted items,” reads the official invitation. Visitors will have the opportunity to see firsthand the techniques and materials behind artistic production in the Hudson Valley.
The program centers on exhibitions and sales of handcrafted items, accompanied by musical performances and food vendors. Confirmed performers include Six String Country, presenting a country repertoire in a string ensemble format from 11 a.m., and acoustic singer-songwriter Erik Rabasca, offering his alternative folk set from 2 p.m.
In the event of rain, the fair will move to Sunday, September 28. The Festival of Makers – Artisans of the Hudson Valley is part of the calendar that launches the fall activities.
