The last Saturday of September will bring movement to Depew Park: bounce houses, open pickleball and tennis courts, food stands, craft workshops, and a row of municipal vehicles ready for children to climb aboard. The gathering will take place on Saturday, September 27, beginning at 12 p.m. Fun Day & Touch a Truck is part of the community agenda organized by the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation.
The event, which will continue until 4 p.m., also has the support of the city’s Police Department and Fire Department, which will bring several of their vehicles for the Touch a Truck display. This program is an expanded version of the Family Fun Day events that the city has previously held in the same park.

The schedule of activities offers something for all ages. There will be outdoor games, wagon rides, craft workshops, and prize giveaways. Food and refreshments will also be available throughout the afternoon. Admission is free and no prior registration is required.
The main attraction of Fun Day will be the Touch a Truck area, designed for children and their families to interact with large vehicles, including fire trucks, police patrol cars, and municipal equipment, and to experience them as if they were part of the team. Attendees will be able to climb into the units, explore their interiors, and talk with the operators.
In previous years, the event has drawn steady participation, and organizers expect a similar turnout this year. Peekskill has held several gatherings of this kind before. In 2023, the Touch a Truck at Riverfront Green brought families together around police vehicles, fire trucks, and heavy machinery.
That same year, another edition was held as a fundraiser in honor of Officer Gregory Jones. The event sought to raise funds for the organization New Era Creative Space (NECS). “Our goal is to inspire the next generation of visionary thinkers through the arts,” said its director, Ridvan Idara.
This type of experience, whether for fundraising or not, reinforces community trust in local authorities and promotes harmonious coexistence.
