The banks of the Hudson River will be painted green, white, and orange on Saturday, September 20. Irish banners and flags will flutter from 11 a.m. at Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill to mark the 16th Annual Hudson Valley Irish Festival. The day will run until 7 p.m. and will feature music, poetry, gastronomy, and crafts to honor Irish roots.
The festival, organized by the Hudson Valley Irish Fest & Center, is a cultural gathering that combines the main stage —featuring traditional and diverse music— with themed tents and a space dedicated to families.
The initiative has become a tradition in Peekskill. In previous editions, it received support from organizations and projects such as the Emigrant Support Program of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. Additionally, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Division 18 of Peekskill has been and remains a key pillar in the festival’s organization.

The organizers aim to provide entertainment for all audiences. On the musical side, Shilelagh Law, The Amadans, Phineas and the Lonely Leaves, and Chris Byrne & Seanchai will perform a repertoire ranging from traditional music to contemporary fusions with Irish roots. Performances will be scheduled throughout the day, accompanied by dance demonstrations.
The spoken word tent will also play a central role in the festival. Poets, historians, and writers will share readings and narratives connected to Irish heritage in the Hudson Valley. This programming seeks to keep oral tradition alive, a core element of Irish culture both within and outside the island.
The Irish community has had a strong presence in Peekskill. Since the mid-19th century, Irish immigrants contributed to the city’s social and labor life, working in factories, shipyards, and other industries along the Hudson. The community became more established in 1859 with the founding of the Church of the Assumption, whose original building, completed in 1864, became a center for gatherings and community activities. Since 2000, Peekskill has maintained a sister city relationship with Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland, strengthening cultural ties and promoting Irish heritage.
Food also plays a central role in conveying cultural legacy. During the festival, the gastronomy area will host local vendors with diverse offerings. Confirmed participants include Bernells Baking, Gavin’s Irish Country Inn, Homestyle Bakery, Gaetano’s Deli, Big E BBQ, and Reggae Boy, providing everything from artisanal bakery to smoked meats and dishes inspired by Irish cuisine.
Craft and merchandise booths will include Celtic Aer Gift Shop, Cooper’s Daughter, Bevel & Grain, Shamrock Maple, Grappling with Ghosts, and other regional businesses. The festival will also feature cultural demonstrations, Gaelic language displays, and children’s activities.
Tickets are available online for $12.51 and at the gate for $15. Attendees are advised to bring folding chairs and blankets to enjoy the performances along the Hudson River. For further information or programming details, contact [email protected].
