On September 13, the banks of the Hudson River will become the setting for a community celebration open to all. The Peekskill Shines Together Festival—a free, family-friendly initiative organized by the city’s Human Relations Commission—will begin at 12 p.m. at Riverfront Green Park. Residents from Peekskill and surrounding areas are expected to gather for an afternoon of entertainment lasting until 4 p.m.
The festival, set along Hudson Avenue, will feature live music, food vendors, and activities designed to bring together residents from across the city. The event holds a key place in September’s local calendar, arriving just ahead of the fall season. It also serves as a prelude to other community gatherings, including the Hudson Valley Irish Fest, scheduled for September 20 at the same venue.
The Human Relations Commission, the municipal body responsible for promoting inclusion and community dialogue, is leading the initiative. Under its direction, the festival is intended as a space for connection and engagement. While a full program has not yet been released, organizers have confirmed that food trucks offering a range of options will be present throughout the afternoon.
Riverfront Green Park, chosen as the venue, is one of Peekskill’s most frequently used public spaces, with direct access to downtown and the Metro-North station. The park regularly hosts cultural festivals, concerts, and seasonal celebrations, making it a focal point for activity along the Hudson River waterfront.
On social media, organizers have described the event as “a day of unity and fun” and invited residents to take part in the experience and foster a spirit of connection. The festival reflects the commission’s mission to strengthen the city’s social fabric and to address diversity, equity, and civic participation in Peekskill.
Details such as the full list of food trucks, musical acts, and scheduled activities have not yet been released. Organizers recommend that attendees bring folding chairs or blankets for seating. For more information on the event schedule and programming, residents may contact the Human Relations Commission.
