The sound of the saxophone will flow from the terrace to the dining room of Apropos Restaurant at the Abbey Inn & Spa, carrying enveloping jazz melodies. For four Sundays in August, this gathering place will become the stage for distinguished musical talents. The sessions are scheduled to begin at noon and will be accompanied by a varied brunch extending until 3 p.m. The dates include August 10, 17, 24, and 31.
The series, directed by Joseph Squillante, will bring together eight musicians in rotating duos. On August 10, tenor saxophonist Charley Krachy will share the stage with guitarist Billy Stein. One week later, on August 17, trumpeter and vocalist Bob Arthurs will perform with guitarist Steve LaMattina.
On August 24, alto saxophonist Gary Levy will be joined by Adam Gay on double bass. The month will close on August 31 with guitarist Jeff Barone and vocalist Tony Jefferson. According to the organizers, each performance is scheduled to begin promptly at 12 noon, with the intention of maintaining a continuous musical thread until the conclusion of the program.
Participation in this event requires advance reservation. The brunch menu is available on the restaurant’s website. This type of program is common at the venue, which has incorporated jazz performances into its agenda in past seasons. However, unlike previous sessions, this edition offers a fixed schedule with confirmed performers for each date. The program and times are available on Apropos’ digital platforms.
In recent years, the venue has hosted musical performances combining jazz, contemporary, and classical music. Last year, for example, it featured an intimate violin concert and a similar jazz-related performance. In addition, Sunset Sessions on the Terrace showcased local and regional musicians who accompanied sunsets over the Hudson Valley.
