Colorful landscapes will serve as inspiration for about 40 artists who, on the morning of Saturday, August 2, will capture the beauty of Ossining Harbor in original works of art. The day will begin early. Starting at 7 a.m., the artists will set up with their materials at the Shattemuc Yacht Club, located right along the Hudson River. The public is welcome to observe their creative process until 3 p.m., when the site will transform into a gallery to showcase the pieces on the main terrace.
The encounter with art is part of the 11th edition of Plein Air Paint Out and Auction. The benefit event supports the Junior Sailing Academy, a youth instruction program for ages 9 to 16, considered one of the most comprehensive on the Hudson River. Since the 1960s, it has trained young sailors in boating skills and vessel handling.
Starting at 5 p.m., a live auction will begin. Each work will be presented by the auctioneer and offered for sale through public bidding. Artists donate their pieces to the auction, thereby contributing to the academy’s funding and supporting recreational and educational sailing-related activities. Net proceeds will benefit the program.

Admission to the event is $5, and bidding for each artwork will begin at $100. Plein Air Paint Out and Auction has received strong support from local residents, who look forward to the event each year. The enthusiasm has been expressed on the yacht club’s social media platforms. The reputation of the benefit day has also reached neighboring towns such as Peekskill, located about 10 miles away.
In addition to this activity, the Shattemuc Yacht Club maintains a year-round calendar of community, nautical, and cultural events. They include youth sailing competitions and technical training organized by the Junior Sailing Academy, as well as seasonal celebrations such as the Independence Day BBQ and Hudson River fishing tournaments. The venue also hosts art exhibits, outdoor concerts, and themed dinners.
