Dolores P. Hintze

Dolores “Dee” Pisani Hintze, a lifelong resident of Peekskill, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. She was born on September 9, 1932, to Dominic and Anita (Greco) Pisani. Dolores graduated from Peekskill High School and received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Keuka College in upstate New York.
Dolores enjoyed a successful career as an executive assistant, working for many years at both Marriott Corporation and the Girl Scouts of America. Her professional life was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic.
Beyond her career, Dolores was deeply involved in her community. She was a parishioner of Assumption Church in Peekskill. A long-term member of Highlands Country Club, the Peekskill Garden Club, and the Women’s Club of Peekskill, she was a familiar and beloved face in local circles. Her commitment to service was recognized in 1976 when she was awarded the New York State Woman of the Year by the State Women’s Club for her instrumental role in establishing hearing testing in preschools.
A dedicated member of the Garden Club of Peekskill since 1971, Dee remained active in the club for the rest of her life. She served terms as both president and vice president and was a driving force behind countless projects, organizing everything from club luncheons and bus trips to the Philadelphia Flower Show to the annual club flower shows. As club member Sally Bentley reflects, “Dee was not just the very definition of sweetness. She was also proof of the adage that ‘great things come in small packages.’”
Dee’s passions extended beyond the garden; she was a regular on Hudson Valley golf courses and shared the fun of a serious game of bridge with her Nelson Avenue neighbors. Love was at the core of Dee’s life—love for her family, for her beloved Peekskill, and for the hundreds of friends she made over her lifetime. A fitting tribute would be to follow her example and treat one another with that same sweetness.
An avid golfer, Dolores could often be found on the greens of Highlands Country Club. She cherished her time spent there and the friendships she made. Dee was loved for her talkative and bubbly personality, her devotion to golf, and her “famous” lasagna.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of more than sixty years, Donald W. Hintze. She is survived by her son, Donald S. (Sheila) Hintze and her daughter Andrea Hintze; her two grandchildren, Liz (Patrick) Rubright and Brendan Hintze (fiancée Morgan Russo); her great-grandsons, Oliver and Hudson Rubright; her sister, Edwina Thorn; and an extended family of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A celebration of life will be held in early September. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dee’s memory to the Garden Club of Peekskill Scholarship Fund. Mailing address: The Garden Club of Peekskill, Marj Trainor, 48 Hewitt Street, Lake Peekskill, NY 10537-1205.
