The sound of Amy Hersh’s guitar echoes with The Beatles and Chuck Berry, but also with children’s nursery rhymes. It will be Monday, June 30, and the community room at the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak will be filled with chords and applause during the Rock & Roll for Little Ones program. A musical session designed for children ages 0 to 5, though open to audiences of all ages, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. However, families will need to arrive at least half an hour earlier to obtain their tickets.

Admission to the event is free. No prior registration is required, but a ticket must be collected at the children’s reference desk before the activity begins. To obtain it, it is necessary to present a Westchester Library System card. The concert follows a drop-in format, meaning admission is granted until capacity is reached. In previous editions, the program has attracted between 30 and 50 attendees.
The event will last approximately one hour. During that time, Hersh alternates children’s songs with classic rock hits, encouraging participation through clapping, dancing, and communal singing. In addition to the Hart Library, the artist has presented this same show at regional libraries such as Croton Free Library and Hendrick Hudson Free Library under her project Amy Hersh Kids Tunes.
Amy Hersh, a performer and composer from the Hudson Valley, will lead Monday’s session. Her repertoire includes American children’s songs like “Twinkle, Twinkle” and classic rock hits such as Yellow Submarine, Hound Dog, Rock Around the Clock, and Roll Over Beethoven.
The event is part of the Hart Library’s recurring children’s programming, which typically offers this activity during June, although editions have also taken place in other months of the year. For further information, the library provides details on its website.
