This spring, theater enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) presents Box Spring: A Festival of One-Act Plays on two consecutive weekends, March 28-30 and April 4-6. Featuring three compelling premieres, the event will take place at WCT’s black box theater at 23 Water Street in Ossining.
“As we enter our 15th year, we are ready to break new ground by introducing a thought-provoking powerhouse of plays written by some of the region’s most acclaimed playwrights, writers who are willing to take risks,” said Alan Lutwin, executive director of WCT. “Each piece is sure to have a bright future following its debut here. The ensemble of writers, directors, and actors we’ve gathered for this production are top-notch. I’m confident that audiences will find this a memorable offering.”
The lineup for Box Spring: A Festival of One-Act Plays includes…
Gabriela by Giovanni Pucci (Congers), directed by Missy Flower (Ossining). Set at Grant’s Tomb in New York City, three friends meet at night and discover something that can change them forever. Featuring Anne Glickman (Croton-on-Hudson), Nick Nazario (Peekskill), Julian Hargrove (Sleepy Hollow), Jessica Valente (Brewster), Rofa Abayon (Katonah), and Robert Santiago (Carmel).
Never Wild by Evelyn Mertens (Briarcliff Manor), directed by Mario Giacalone (Croton-on-Hudson).
When a “good girl” who follows the rules crosses the line, the consequences could be monumental, depending on whether her secrets remain hidden or are revealed. Featuring Sandy Rooney (Dobbs Ferry) and Adam Black (Tarrytown).

A Leave of Absence by Joni Fritz (Peekskill), directed by Julia LaVerde (Irvington).
A brother and sister return to their mother’s home on the morning of their father’s unusual funeral, leading to unexpected revelations and buried resentments. Featuring Benna Strober (Bedford Hills), Maggie Kramer (Ossining), Dan Slavin (Scarborough).

Behind-the-scenes crew of the festival include stage manager Allison Schneider (New City), Kim Chandler (New Rochelle) as audio operator and Dan Forman (Yorktown Heights) as lighting operator. The entire production team, from playwrights to crew, director and actors are all members of WCT. The performance schedule is as follows…
Fridays March 28 & April 4 at 8 p.m.
Saturdays March 29 & April 5 at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m.
Sundays March 30 & April 6 at 3 p.m.

Westchester Collaborative Theater
Since opening its black box performance space in 2017, Westchester Collaborative Theater in Ossining has become known as a vibrant venue showcasing original plays, readings, live music, and a variety of performance artists.
WCT is a multicultural, cooperative theater company dedicated to developing new work for the stage and bringing live theater to the community. It is comprised of local playwrights, actors, and directors who employ a lab approach where new stage works are nurtured through an iterative process of readings, critiques, and rewrites. When work is ready for production, it is presented to the public.
WCT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that has received production grants from ArtsWestchester and the New York State Council on the Arts.
