On March 8, from 2 to 4 p.m., Peekskill Artist Will Hanlon will be at The Field Gallery, located on the mezzanine level of the Field Library, for an artist reception discussing his Push Pin Art Retrospective. With more than 35 works on display through March 28, viewers will be in for an immersive treat and rather unusual exhibit.
Imagine walking through an art gallery and seeing a piece you really like. Adjacent to it is a placard with a description and a QR code. You take out your cell phone, open the camera app, and scan the code. Instantly a small link appears. Click the link and a 3-minute movie plays, showing how the art work was created, accompanied by an original soundtrack by the artist. As you watch the video, you become totally immersed in the art and the process, seeing the piece from a totally new perspective.

“Between 2012 and 2015, I was focused on designs in geometries and patterns,” said Hanlon. “I was already several years into working with push pins and foam, but my photography efforts failed to capture the depth and 3D nature of works. So I took photos and videos of the steps of crafting each work-in-progress. I then produced a 3-minute video of the genesis and composed an electronic music soundtrack.” (Earbuds are recommended to listen in private.)
